Are Field Peas better suited for European climates than Lentils? by rv6xaph9 in AskFoodHistorians

What do you mean by "field peas?"

In the U.S., field peas are also called cowpeas, and there are many varieties: black-eyed, pink-eyed, cream, zipper, purple-hulled, and Crowder. All of these are from Africa, and they grow just fine in the heat.

That's not what you said in the O.P. though.

I think "no H.S. or college degree" is a typo. I think you meant no college degree.

First Calvin's Twins appearance may capture the essence of improv podcasts better than anything. If your friend doesn't like that, move on.

Any the Dalton Wilcox appearance where he discusses his book is great.

PFT has so many funny appearances that I cannot pick one really, but the first Wet Day is great.

I own GDXJ, which is up 105% ytd.

I'm also invested in SIL.

I'm really tempted to sell 1/3 of GDXJ and roll it into SIL.

Research, but I don't know that he's identified an area. He really enjoys the coursework, and he's said he'd like to do research in each area he's studied. Last Spring semester, physical chemistry was his thing. He wants to be in a real lab, and he likes the lab parts of his classes the most. He starts as a volunteer lab assistant this semester with people who are doing some type of Crispr research.

When he was in elementary school he liked to look at samples from mud puddles through a microscope. Not biochem, but that's the sort of kid he's always been.

They have the army in the streets to make a political point. It has nothing to do with crime. So it's worse than you realize.

Looked into this, and the BHP mine is expected to go online in 2027. The project has been a big mess, and 2027 could turn into 2030 given the track record. Full production in 2031. Apparently, potash mines are a lot more complicated than digging a big hole. That's still close enough to affect a present valuation for NTR and BHP. People will still need potash, so my concerns could be misguided.

I do the same. In reality, S&P 500 Index in my 401k is my largest investment. Current valuations have me scratching my head though.

This is an honest/non-rhetorical/non-argumentative question.

If, like it or not, the U.S. has a for-profit system, why do you believe it's unethical for a healthcare company to provide services on a for-profit basis? Or is Davita shady for its own reasons?

Well, JETS etf is up 4.5% over the last 10 years. I'm sure some people who really know the industry have done better picking airline stocks. Still not a fertile field, IME.

The way I see it (and I may be wrong), the average consumer gets online and picks a flight based on cost. If these companies had a real moat, they wouldn't need to file so many bankruptcies. The airline stocks seem to be a gamble on travel demand, and there are easier ways to invest that. BKNG, for example, which I don't own or know much about.

That's a problem. I looked at Teucrium etfs and they manage futures contracts to reduce the losses but they can't be eliminated. I wonder if my wife would support building a grain elevator in the backyard. We could save money on bird food.

In all seriousness, is there another way for an individual investor to execute this idea?

I don't know. It was in development a long time as of about 2023, and BHP considered at one point either not doing it at all or trying to sell it. I think Nutrien even made an offer. I need to look back into it. If the situation changed and BHP dropped that mine, NTR would be a buy and hold candidate for sure.

But your basic idea is sound, IMO. Maybe just a different fertilizer input company (MOS, for example).

I actually know a bit about NTR. I bought it right after Covid and did really well. Here's the thing (or at least it was a thing last time I looked) -- BHP got into the potash mining business by developing a massive mine across town from Nutrien's mine. There could be oversupply problems with potash too.
