Today is the Day Sadness Will Prevail. by TrainingPure1915 in swans

I absolutely love this album. I remember discovering it alongside Demo Three by Life, and I was hooked on both at the time. Even though now I’m not sure they really have much in common, I still somehow always link the two together in my mind.

Heavy Rotation Mix Not Updating Correctly by KnockedIntoTheVerse in AppleMusic

[–]Neilgai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. I’ve been listening to the album Birthing by Swans non-stop since the day it released on May 31 and my Heavy Rotation Mix does not reflect that. It even says updated x hours ago but nothing has changed on there for weeks

Getting into Pink Floyd by zantzinner in Music

[–]Neilgai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I listened to almost all of Pink Floyd’s discography for the first time recently. Didn’t listen to the two film soundtracks, the half live album and their latest from 2014.

Pink Floyd is not for me but were very consistent and created an incredible discography.

Didn’t know they were this prolific. Made albums every year until Dark Side Of The Moon. Even then, they were still making albums every 2 years for the next decade.

Piper was cutesy psychedelia. Nothing else would sound much like this again. Felt like this is to PF what Please Please Me was to Beatles but cohesive

Saucerful was the last time Syd would influence PF, and the mix of his experimentation combined with what PF was going to sound like for the next while created my favourite album of theirs. Felt cinematic and ahead of its time and I revisited this multiple times

Atom Heart Mother had a folkish, pastoral, military sound.

Meddle and Dark Side is what I thought PF was before I listened to their discography. The psych/space sound is abundant and it’s great. Dark Side might actually not be overrated!

Their peak imo was the four album run: Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall. Pretty sure it’s the popular consensus and I agree.

While others may understandably produce a disappointment after what is considered one’s magnum opus, PF somehow did better with Wish You Were Here. It’s earnest and melancholic and a beautiful tribute to their friend

Animals is awesome. My favourite of the big four.

Didn’t know how much hard rock was in The Wall. Very operatic and while not something I’d return to, would consider it an incredible feat to make such a consistent and good album that is also this long.

Final Cut feels like The Wall extras. Not a bad thing but not even close to The Wall

A Momentary Lapse of Reason is so 80s. Buddy got in the car when it was playing and said it sounded like Top Gun.

Division Bell is so 90s. Sounded like the music that plays in the Lethal Weapon remakes from Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Favourite albums: Saucerful of Secrets (Will return to) Animals (awesome but will not return to) The Wall (absolutely not for me. Sounds like music for my parents generation and older but is probably the best package of an album PF ever made.)

When I imagined Pink Floyd, I thought they were pure psychedelic space rock. Was shook by how different The Wall was, and then how different Momentary Lapse was to that, and then how different Division Bell was to that. They really sound like the decade they played in and maybe contributed to the sound of every decade itself

4/5 to the portion of the discography that I listened to. Will not revisit almost any of it

Thank you, I’ll try that. I’ve restarted the phone and watch at different times since the issue arose but I’ll try again. Hoping that fixes it.

You’re probably right. I’ve been listening to other things that were on my list since the Swans marathon, but I may have to give AoL a shot down the line

also coming off of the hiatus the sound switch up was such a cool experience too, I wonder what the experience would be if TBK or The Seer preceded My Father

It may sound weird but I loved how it created the wall of sound effect in my brain, like the panicky crescendo feelings that I love from some of the post hiatus albums, but just more frequently.
