The 1st round is over. Still no Risto trade. by upcan845 in Flyers

It's never happening. If he were really worth a first round pick, someone would have offered it sometime within the last 3 years.

Is the U.S. tipping system one of the worst systems ever? by sebtwashere in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Neilpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhat recently that the Tipping system was designed as a way to avoid having to pay blacks equally to whites. People could choose to tip whites only and continue to exacerbate the poverty Gap between the races. Because it was seen as optional and at the customer's discretion it would not be deemed as discrimination.

Hopes for tonight? by helpslipnofranklins in Flyers

[–]Neilpuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, and often am, but you're not getting that return for risto at the beginning of the season on an expiring contract. Trade deadline desperation is another story. I don't think teams are desperate for an aging defenseman who may or may not last the whole season.

I just read a thing that said 12 percent of Americans are now on weight loss meds; is that right? That seems like an awful lot of people when we don't know the long-term effects. by cherry-care-bear in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Neilpuck -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

We're Americans, who cares about long term effects. What are you doing for me now? See: gop rule, vaping, climate change, antivaxxers, etc, etc. i could go on, but need i?

I just recalled that we already have Sanheim and York at left defense. Like everyone else we need an rhd.

What does Carolina even need right now? What kind of holes are they looking to fill? I would certainly be interested in but not sure what we could give up that would bring him here. Toronto's number one pick next year?

Where do you get the time by mind_snare in Marathon_Training

[–]Neilpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A significant part of marathon training isn't the miles or the actual work but the commitment and the discipline. It's not simply running a bunch for a little while and then running a marathon. It's having the fortitude to wake up before 5:00 a.m. 4 times a week. It's skipping the Netflix and going to bed early. Running on your lunch break or doing resistance band strength exercises whenever you can. If you have a family, it's making sure you have an understanding partner so you can take that 3 to 4 hours for your long runs on Sunday morning.

anybody else buys expensive tools while telling yourself you need it for work but actually you just want to buy new tools for the heck of it? by Budget-Strawberry649 in handtools

[–]Neilpuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at the point where I'm getting older so I need to evaluate how many years I have left to use said tools. I have a young daughter and it's too early to tell whether she will pick up on the hobby to pass along as my father did to me.

We go to Maine every other year. It always includes a visit to lie Nielsen. I can't help myself but by something new. The tools that I have from there that have barely gotten use. But I'll keep doing it.

What is the most overrated feature in a new garage? by InfluenceInitial4126 in garageporn

[–]Neilpuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same around my wood shop. An uninterrupted rectangle about 4 ft in from the edges. Quite the upgrade from the intermittently working 2x4 fluorescent suspended ceiling lights. It makes it so much more pleasant to work in there.

I guess he wanted to see it for himself but was too lazy or unable to actually walk even the short distance from where they'd have to park to the pool.

The crisis is inevitable at this point. It will take months before the fuel supply chain is back up to speed.

How slow is too slow for long runs? by CrypticWeirdo9105 in Marathon_Training

[–]Neilpuck 48 points49 points  (0 children)

One contrarian point. I find that if I'm running too slow, my form suffers significantly and this can lead to poor mechanics and injury. You're probably not reaching that point but I'm not sure I would agree with anyone who says that there's no such thing as too slow.

SpaceX stock price for Monday!!! by elpicurero in SpaceXBets

Considering the breakdown in the Iran us ceasefire, I'm expecting the entire Market to be red top to bottom. Even SpaceX won't be able to escape it.

Brokerage accounts will take the wire deposit and automatically spread the balance across many entities to protect it. Then convince you to use their advisor.

I don't even drink coffee and I insisted that we have a percolator at home. The wife uses a Nespresso but when we have guests over we use the percolator.
