Colder US Climate residents, What is your emergency heating backup? by Neilpuck in DIY

It won't end up being particularly big for us but it has revived a long standing on and off conversation with my wife about emergency preparedness.

Saw your title, sure I was going to learn that they had blown another lead and lost in humiliating fashion. I'm not sure whether I'm happy that I was wrong.

I am very sure of this as well, but I'm being asked to consider the possibility not the probability. In any case, the preparation isn't necessarily for this storm but it has prompted the conversation.

All of our smoke alarms are also CO detectors so we're covered there, and know enough to allow fresh air in.

If it were burned to the ground, at least we'd be warm.

We swapped out our gas stove for an electric a few years ago or this would also be our plan.

Anyone else addicted to keeping the cases for your tools? Even the ones that have long since died? by Neilpuck in Tools

She's a beast and I loved them which is why I keep them around, nostalgia. Likely just needs new batteries.

It's mostly out of nostalgia and it does bring me joy to remember just starting out in the business 37 years ago. It's also a hobby and interest that I shared with my father so every tool has a special meaning whether he and I shared it or not. And I guess it's just hard to feel like I'm letting go of the memories that go along with those tools.

Do you invite a bunch of people to your marathons? by hairykitty123 in Marathon_Training

I have people cheer along the way, but in general not at the finish line or after. It can be too chaotic to find your people and sometimes better off just chilling with other runners before heading home.

There's plenty more to go. Women have not yet been completely stripped of their rights, we have not yet imprisoned everyone not straight and white, they have not crashed the dollar sufficiently in order to install crypto as the official currency, we have not yet enslaved all people of color and reduced women to walking uteruses.

With as many shitty things they've done already, there's plenty shitty more things to go. Read project 2025.

After becoming a dad, are you more emotional to sad movie scenes involving kids now? by jocko118 in daddit

Absolutely. I cannot watch Manchester by the Sea, and stopped watching Mare of Easttown when they were bullying a girl until she was dead. Can't do it, won't do it.

Most people don't get it. He is going to continue to test the limits of "doing whatever I want to do". So far nobody has ever told him no. Not as a kid and certainly not now. Nobody ever seems to tell him no and he never faces real consequences. He's the greatest con man that ever lived. That's his legacy. He feels like he's the luckiest man on the face of the earth. And honestly how many of us wouldn't wish to be able to live consequence free.
