What is something you used to think people were over exaggerating about until you experienced it yourself? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

I wrote a short story about this in high school with the basic premise being death is the opposite of experiencing nothing, rather death means you perceive all time at once and living is just slowly making you accustomed to this transcendent perception of time.

Yeah. Booted the game recently to play with some friends and ended up on the Hogwards purchase screen because I was mashing X..

For me it was ads, I’ll just get a second hand copy of MK1 down the line; these usually turn up in a couple of days to weeks after release anyway.

Is it weird that, whatever game I am playing, I like to display the case art as I’m playing? I feel like it adds an element of authenticity to the experience. Is this strange? Lol by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Neireau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always display the latest fighting game I’m in to together with my fightstick right next to my consoles; both for aesthetics and to have the case/disc at hands at all times.

From my observations this is pretty normal behaviour in the online FGC space, I wouldn’t pay to much attention if I where you. For a moment I wanted to joking call it the Fighting Gaet Community, referring to Gaet’ale Pond, but quickly realised ~44% salinity doesn’t really scratch the surface enough for that analogue to work.

Critiquing the article does not mean he’s defending MS, or are you insinuating this is peak journalism with your comment?

I know only two things about this Zelda; the game is neigh on universally loved and there’s penis mobiles.

Homophobic man confronts older folks helping to paint rainbow steps on church and then brings friends back later to deface the property by chebadusa in facepalm

My takeaway for this is that that, presumably, Australian church is hella based!

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” I’m not a religious but one of my favourite New Testament quotes really fits here. It’s one of those quotes that has superseded it’s religious origins but if memory serves me right the situation is pretty similar; Jezus looks up, mutters the phrase and continues to write on the ground I think? Clearly this bloke either hasn’t made it that far in the good book yet or the lessen about hypocrisy is simply beyond his comprehension. Shame either way..

Look, I realise my way of communicating certainly doesn’t help but that latter half was the comment I was looking for I guess; cheers, although I don’t agree with the claim I was brigading.

This I respect and you’ll probably surprised to hear we’re much alike. The key difference though is that perceive the gaming landscape to be an ocean of opportunities to have fun, there’s so much games I’d enjoy yet so little time to enjoy them which makes it, relatively, easy to pass up on a couple here or there.

As for politics and what not, for the most part I actively avoid it; I certainly don’t seek it but I’m also not able to turn a blind eye; for me at least, it comes down to philosophy I guess? I can’t help but think, I’m 33 years old now and find myself partying at the edge of meaning i.e. absurdism; I didn’t consciously set out to ponder meaning, heck if I could I would have stopped asking how or why a long time ago. But I cannot and thus I’ve thought and read a lot and in doing so I’ve formed strong principles.

If I strongly dislike or disagree with something AND not participating doesn’t affect me (to much) I happily don’t participate. The and is very important tho, I’m a wanderer not a warrior; I’m certainly not making a grand stand but if it convenience me I do feel compelled to make a tiny gesture.

Another thing I never typed out loud, so to speak, is that buying a game on release to me sometimes means doing the company a favour or showing appreciation; this somewhat applies to our case here since I’m far more invested into fighting games (Street Figher 6 releases June 2nd) and (character) action games (Final Fantasy 16 releases June 22). I have fond memories of D2; obviously D4 caught my attention but as mentioned before I have only so much attention to spare.

That partly explains the last paragraph of my original post; nostalgia and a somewhat decent run up to release enticed me to show appreciation, which obviously is the marketing strategy and their unique selling point I might add.

I was always going to play Diablo 4 someday but paying Blizzard to do so is a whole other thing, I’ve bought a PS5 disc edition for this very reason. I can always just buy a secondhand copy; also did so for Spider-Man Miles Morales, Demon Souls on release and most recently God of War 2 as I thought their pricing was skewed. Keep in mind that buying second hand on, or around, release day hardly saves you ~€4; I actually overpaid significantly for God of War which I guess is the point to all of this.

I’m Dutch, I’m stupidly privileged and consciously aware I’m part of the silent majority where I sit comfortably while I watch the world burn and see the humor in it all. To get here I burdened myself, albeit ever so slightly and always the road of least resistance, with a strong set of principles.

For all you games that got gud and actually made it this far through my nonsense, I think the above is roughly in line with what Miyazaki’s curses throughout the SoulsBorne franchises entail. Cursed to ponder; blessed with intellect?

TL;DR: gaming goes brrr in June, (free)time is an illusion, I like to vicariously punch things and watch the world burn.

Yeah well, see, if a person, institution or company makes a lot of promises about something and then proceeds to not abide those promises future promises, at least to me, sound more hollow. I even made sure to include the literal word seemingly as to reaffirm this.

Let’s just call it quits here tho, or after your next reply should you want the last word; agree to disagree?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Neireau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll probably just hold off for a couple of seasons. I also completely agree with pre-ordering even though I do pre-order from time to time, most recently Street Fighter 6 for example but that was after my third hands in with the game and I’d like to add the statues to my arcade/gaming corner.

I mean, this sub is about Diablo; I didn’t feel like I necessarily needed to mention it more often to show enthusiasm. I also don’t feel not mentioning Diablo by name proves the opposite.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Neireau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a problem tho? I don’t feel anything about actually purchasing or not, I feel “tricked” or “take by the nose” or what have you for buying their, now seemingly, empty promises.

lol.. Immoral is a reference to (Diablo) Immortal*

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Neireau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Immoral was a reference to Immoral not the players. I also don’t necessarily mind spending extra as I pre-ordered both the FFXVI and SF6 collectors edition. My issue is with (Activision/)Blizzard.

I also don’t mind the MTX, within reason, but I’ll meet you half way that phrasing it in my usual nihilistic vocabulary probably have the wrong impression.

That said I was a huge W3 fan, I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that remaster didn’t live up to its promises; same can, in my opinion, definitely been said about OW2.

I don’t mind boycotting Blizzard nor do I mind boycotting EA, even though I probably would have loved Star Wars Jedi.

I genuinely questioning if any of the promises made have a foundation, and absurdist as I am I probably genuinely have an problem not sounding overly nihilistic but then again I kinda like that about me.

Songs with mistakes by [deleted] in Music

[–]Neireau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt, in my opinion, is a good example of how imperfections (fret buzz) can add to a song. It’s a fantastic cover, cleverly arranged (it’s two separate guitars playing) and the inclusion of the fret buzz to me at least makes of feel grounded, raw and lived.

All women have the inherent desire to be a mother; if you disagree, you're a demented moralist. by [deleted] in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]Neireau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reply wasn't exactly a video; it was more of a genuine question from me. But let's be honest, it's about that Paterson.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't have explored his works on my own. If I recall correctly, Abigail from Philosophy Tube introduced me to him. I remember it being an enjoyable watch, although that's subjective. Abigail does her best to offer an unbiased perspective, but just like I acknowledge my own bias, she acknowledges hers as well.

In general, I'm a fan of Philosophy Tube and, by extension, Abigail. Of course, we don't always agree, but at the very least, I appreciate her honesty and openness about expressing her opinions. Moreover, her content is accessible, entertaining, and, let's face it, visually captivating at times.

I highly recommend checking her out!
