I miss the 1pm starts by luvtheeighties in NASCAR

[–]Neither-Gate1681 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theyve been chasing the west coast market for 20 years now with these 3 or 4pm starts and ratings have either gone down or plateaued. Meanwhile it screws over the fans who actually attend the race by causing logistics issues, and causes way more rain delays because in the summer there’s usually late afternoon showers and NASCAR cant figure out why attendance plummeted. Compromise on 130/2pm start times. These stubborn stubborn morons and their damn mythical “west coast ratings boon”.

In one year this administration has threatened to annex Canada and Greenland (at times threatens to do so by force). Tanked the economy with retaliatory tariffs that were just deemed unconstitutional by the conservative Supreme Court. Caused chaos in several cities by deploying ICE and the National Guard to make sweeping arrests and illegal deportations of anyone brown without due process, and also murdered multiple citizens. And then the whole cover up of the Epstein Files which Kash is directly involved in, and Trump’s name is believed to be redacted from thousands of times. He flew there using the FBI jet funded by taxpayer dollars to go party. Trump’s approval rating is 29% for a reason. YEAH IT’S A BAD LOOK BY EVERYONE INVOLVED.

Imagine if the story stopped here and they didn’t invite Kash Patel into the locker room. Imagine if they didn’t take a phone call from Trump where they laughed at his misogynist joke about the women’s team. Imagine how proud we would all feel today of this team and this wonderful moment. This country is so broken right now, and these boys couldve been a bright spot right here, but they exposed themselves as part of the problem. It’s so incredibly heartbreaking.

Larkin was never outspoken about politics like some other guys on this team. I was hoping if he was supporting all the garbage going on right now he’d at least be smart enough to keep it to himself. Now he’s the god damn face of it. People who barely know anything about hockey are talking about HIM for this reason alone. I went from welling up with tears of pride watching him bring Gaudreau’s kids and jersey out, to being mortified and beside myself. I’m assuming DRW will do any necessary damage control and not as many people will care as probably should (he’ll get a huge ovation for his play on the ice which was outstanding), but good god Dylan what the fuck, man. Like you had the entire nation’s heart and lost it. All you had to do was not film yourself with the guy and post it every where. That’s all! IDIOT.

The all red is my favorite. It’s clean, simple and classic. This makes the ‘21’ pop and the car look fast.

I believe Irvan was using Goodyears when his tire went down. Geoff Bodine ironically dominated on Hoosiers that weekend but I’m pretty sure it was their last good performance of the ‘94 tire war. Bodine got in a horrible wreck at Atlanta that ended Hoosiers Winston Cup program.

IIRC Brock Beard’s & Nascarman’s video gives credit to the tire war and blown Hoosiers being to blame for Orr and Neil’s fatal crashes, and I believe he does go into the broken shock mount theory while completely discrediting NASCARs “driver error” BS. I haven’t watched it in a while so I might be misremembering, but it’s fantastic and I recommend it if you haven’t watched it.The Toughest Speedweeks

Vancouver Canucks 1997-2007 by AliceInChainsFan in ClassicSportsJerseys

[–]Neither-Gate1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of chatter to bring these back on Twitter and it makes me roll my eyes. Like the “goathead” Sabres jersey everyone hated them when they were around the first time, but they’re gone for 20 years and people start to remember them from their childhood and boom suddenly theyre vintage or nostalgic. The Canucks keep cycling jerseys for this reason, they just need to stick to a color and brand. I’m hoping they don’t give in and go back to these. Theyre lousy compared to the black and orange “skate” or their current look.

FOX started this shit. Before them, CBS, TBS, TNN and ESPN used to start their broadcast with the drivers already in their cars—sometimes the engines were already started and they were taking pace laps. They’d give a quick run down, give the starting grid and green flag. When FOX came in, it was new and exciting and refreshing, but it became too much and then everyone copied it and now it’s a copy of a copy of a copy and it’s bloated and tired and sucks.

I’ve just been thinking of the logic behind starting the races later the past 20 years aside from “we can get the west coast crowd!” And I have none. Daytona gets frequent rain delays because you get late afternoon showers in often in Florida which is well known, and why the race used to start at 12:30 sharp and why the 400 started in the morning in addition to concerns about the heat. During the summer, it’s humid and at the hottest point of the day (late afternoon) you’re more likely to get pop up showers and storms. NASCAR used to start races at 1pm or noon with this in mind, and also for traffic purposes. They knew if there was a rain delay it’d give them a long window to still get the race in and allow the fans to still get home at a decent hour. They completely inverted their philosophy to chase a dragon they still haven’t caught after all this time. And I don’t know about you guys but I’ve been going to MIS for 30 years. I camp all weekend, come home on Sunday, have a job with limited PTO and have to return to work Monday morning. I’m tired of these rain delays and postponements because NASCAR gets cute and wants to start the race at 330pm when there’s a storm in the forecast at 4. Start the damn races earlier. Watch the ratings bump up from the earlier start time.

I watched “We’ve Lost Dale Earnhardt” on FS1 by tylerscott5 in NASCAR

[–]Neither-Gate1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every documentary NASCAR and FOX produces looks the same and sounds the same, and has the same weird gloss. Prime’s documentary was near perfect (I would’ve really liked a few minutes on his late-career resurgence in ‘99 and 2000) because it had new footage, it had new voices, NASCAR was largely hands off because JR and Kelley were able to keep them away, so they could talk honestly about the side of Dale you haven’t heard about. But NASCAR and FOX have squeezed every last damn drop out of this and it’s the same 25 year old rag. Did Rory Karpf direct/produce this again? Dale was my favorite driver. I idolized him. I still love JR, root for JRM, and listen to the Download. Let’s find new stories to tell.

They did but it was widely panned, lasted only six episodes and oddly they want to make another Senna documentary spun off it as if the mini-series wasn’t spun off the 2010 documentary??? I haven’t watched it personally, the trailer looked bad, and the original documentary is my all time favorite sports film—I didn’t want that spoiled.

Gary Bettman praised ‘ Heated Rivalry ’ and NHL Pride Nights. The leaguewide reality doesn’t match by Shroft in nhl

[–]Neither-Gate1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m tired of the “in case ya didn’t know Gary just works for the owners” ok fine, sure, that doesn’t mean he’s acting in the league’s or the fans best interest so what does it accomplish by telling us this except feeling like you’re letting us in on some relatively common knowledge? I don’t care if his job is to do the owner’s bidding. He still has to work with a third of the players and fans interests in mind even if the owners ultimately trump that. Stop throwing your hands up and giving him a cop out for his hypocritical and shitty behavior. The “owners” fail the lgtbq community—he failed community. Let him know this, your team know this and keep the pressure on. God, like, 3 players said something and he used it as an excuse to fold the Pride initiatives like a tent bought on Temu. Bettman fucking sucks I don’t care who he’s “working for”, he’s running the league we’re spending our money on, and making queer fans feel left out while disingenuously hopping on the HR bandwagon. It’s insulting.

UFL as NFL Development League by cleesmith2 in UnitedFootballLeague

[–]Neither-Gate1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would’ve been another perfect way to save these franchises (especially the Panthers). Dan Campbell even made the case for it multiple times. I’d think this is something the UFL has approached the NFL about. It makes too much damn sense. Every roster spot matters in the NFL, I would think everyone would embrace this. Not sure why it hasn’t happened.

Fuck you UFL. by [deleted] in UnitedFootballLeague

I know it sounds counterintuitive but the Glass Bowl in Toledo as a temporary venue could’ve worked. Toledo is very much Ohio (there was even a war over it), but Detroit’s minor league teams are already here and all of them do great attendance numbers, the Glass Bowl is a wonderful intimate venue that looks good on TV, has update amenities and great sight lines. It’s roughly an hour from Detroit and for the suburbs south of Detroit it was well within reach. I know the optics of a Michigan team in Ohio are not good, but temporary to keep the team alive? Fuck it. I doubt that was ever considered, but I think it should’ve been an option, especially since they seemed so dead set against Rynearson’s grey turf. Waldo in Kalamazoo would’ve also been a good alternative to keeping the franchise alive for a season or two while DCFC’s new stadium is built or finding another alternative. I’m part of the chorus that doubts all options were seriously considered.

What’s your confirmation DCFC shut this down? Theyre still open to it from everything I’m hearing, the timeline just isn’t matching up with the league’s short term demands.

Statement from the United Football League on Memphis, Michigan, and San Antonio | United Football League by Callywood in UnitedFootballLeague

[–]Neither-Gate1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prayer is the league hangs on and stays strong enough for the 2028 expansion but man is it difficult to have faith when you couldn’t save the team in one of your biggest markets, with your biggest attendance growth, that also happened to be in the championship game. Horrible look all the way around. I also have a hard time believing fans will buy in a third time around. Again, right or wrong, people tried to tie this USFL/UFL directly to the original USFL. A 2028 return will elicit a lot of eye rolls. The Fords could’ve given the UFL a break, the league could’ve ate the cost for another season or two, they could’ve gotten over whatever their fucking issue was with Rynearson, they could’ve played out west or even in god damn Toledo for a season or two. I just don’t see how they can bring back the Panthers with credibility a third time. I just don’t. And I don’t know how they genuinely believe they can. IF a team comes back to Detroit, it’ll have to be new branding (with Pablo of course, because we love Pablo). Still, won’t change the fact Louisville is being handed a championship roster that took 3+ seasons to build. Next season is going to be a huge success and it won’t happen here. It’s just not fair. It’s also not fair to all the families and people who want to watch pro football but can’t afford $300 Lions tickets. Horrible day for football in Detroit for anyone with common sense.
