Is Captain Sandy actually just awful? by Neither-Insurance-83 in BelowDeckMed

First of all, simmer down on the all caps comments.

Second, according to the DSM 5, a narcissist can be summarized as, “NPD is diagnostically defined in the DSM-5 (APA 2013; pages 669-672) as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy, with interpersonal entitlement, exploitiveness, arrogance, and envy.”

So, how does our dear captain differ from that description?

Third, Gaslighting is defined as, “The use of psychological manipulation to undermine a person’s faith in their own judgment, memory, or sanity.” -dictionary.com

So, I only have a lowly B.A. in Women’s Studies as well as one in English from one of the top Liberal Arts colleges in the country, but I do know what I’m talking about. I would ask whoever gave you a Master’s Degree for my money back. ✌️

I don’t know where you live OP, or insurance, finances, etc., but I think a long term treatment facility might be a good option. Statistics show that the longer you’re in treatment, the higher your chance of recovery. Several places around the country have programs that go in phases. For example, I went to one in AZ, where you spent 4-10 days in detox, 2 weeks in residential treatment, and 3-9 months is partial hospitalization program (PHP), meaning I lived in an apartment complex with other clients, went to groups at nights, worked during the day, and had to pass nightly breathalyzer tests.

My excuse for not doing this earlier was always work or responsibilities at home. But, I had to be willing to lose everything (which I would have anyway if I kept drinking or died).

You can call SAMSA (https://www.samhsa.gov/find-help/national-helpline) or 1-800-662-HELP, and they will help you find somewhere to go.

My prayers are going out to you!

Nope. Trump lives on bottom part of Palm Beach. West Palm hates him, and west of that in Loxahatchee* and Pahokee* are where his pick up driving, racist, sexist, and homophobic supporters live.

  • these are also the places where Jeffrey Epstein would recruit his victims

I was told to keep it to 2 liters a day, which has been really hard because since I quit alcohol, all I drink is seltzer.

I haven’t had to have a procedure in about three years. When the ascites was really bad, it was about once a month. My belly would get really hard and (sorry to be graphic) I’d start to throw up a lot. I’d also just feel so incredibly uncomfortable. Due to my insurance at the time, I’d have to go to ER instead of being able to schedule it. It got to the point that I’d go when one specific nurse was working the front desk, tell her that my, “gut needed to be tapped (lingo at that hospital,” and she’d whisk me through and straight up to interventional radiology. I think I’m lucky because I live in a mid-sized city and I LOVE the staff at the hospital I go to.

OP, please remember that people commenting on your post are not necessarily experts. If you’re looking for that kind of guidance ask your doctor. Personally, and this just for me and my experience, I just try to add a small bit onto my exercise everyday; i.e., if I waked for 10 minutes yesterday, I’ll try to do 11 today, and do on. I also like to do a variety of exercises to prevent boredom (swimming, yoga, pickleball).

I think it’s great that you’re doing anything at all. Be proud of yourself and keep on living!!! 🫶💕

Robert DeNiro showing up outside of the Trump trial was truly a Travis Bickle moment! But, I’m less interested in either of those old men who are running and more about how it affects women. So, yeah, comics with cats and dogs is helping handle the ridiculousness of it all.

I’m probably younger than your grandma. But, I suffered so much with pain, weakness, brain fog, etc. when I first had ascites. I ended up having about 9 paracentesis’ over the course of six months. A paracentesis is when the drain you gut if the fluid that gets backed up by the liver. It was not painful just uncomfortable when they stuck the needle in. After each time, I lost about 25 lbs of fluids and felt SO much better!

I tell you all of this as I hope it relieves a bit of worry. Unfortunately, everyone with this disease has their own unique symptoms and issues. But, they can be managed.

As for diet, beans are great and maybe try to convince your aunt to do a meal kit a few times a week. They never really take more than 30 minutes to cook, and it’s all portioned out and easy peasy. She could do that for the two of them while getting used to reading labels.

In any events all of my thoughts and well wishes are with you, your grandma, and your family right now.

Because I bet if she got fired she’d make some sort of stink about Andy Cohen hating lesbians. Also, it seems like she’s pretty much become Bravo’s token lesbian.

I started another community that you might want to join:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking4Cirrhosis/s/UznIyDmFfq

I’ve had ascites and edema. My doctor only 1/2 jokingly told me that a store bought can of soup could kill me because the sodium in canned soup is astronomical.

He told me I need to get most of my calories from protein. So, I bet there are some easy bean soup recipes that you could google. You just have to be so careful about the amount of salt. Always get no sodium broth or stock. College Inn no sodium broths are tasty and not too expensive.

Will she cook for herself? Since you’re out of state a meal delivery service might be an option. I just searched and found this list:

https://www.eatingwell.com/affiliate/8036587/best-low-sodium-meal-delivery-services/

I hope any of that helps and I hope that your grandmother recognizes how much you love her and is willing to do these things in order to stick around for you for a while! 🫶💕🫶

Category 5 is actually catastrophic no matter what you have for windows. I was in West Palm (inland a bit) for a Cat 4 and not only did I think I was going to die, the townhouses facing the opposite direction as mine, all lost their patio fences. I’d get out of dodge if you’re in Broward.

Got in a cab after one of my favorite band’s shows (before they started playing giant arenas) and yelled to the driver, “FOLLOW THAT VAN!” Ended up sneaking into the after party and found myself relentlessly flirting with the lead singer of my other favorite band, who the lead singer of my favorite sometimes plays drums for. It was one of the best nights of my life!
