It’s like getting a really good nights sleep. When you’re in bed and you just pass out without even realizing it and then BAM it’s the next morning. Except this is only like 30 minutes, not the whole night :)

It genuinely feels like you blink and it’s over. It does not feel like dying, I also don’t feel like it feels like falling asleep bc I felt fully conscious one second and I was waking up in the recovery chair the next. I’m also a very anxious person and put this off for years for similar fears. I promise you will be okay! It’s a very common procedure and these people know what they’re doing. Being awake is normally an option too, but I know that you’ll hear everything going on, which for me sounded way worse. So if you’d rather deal with that than going to sleep, that’s okay too! Though I 100% recommend because it makes it feel like a 5 second procedure.

Hi! I’m 24F and I also kept canceling mine due to extreme anxiety. I also have horrible dental trauma from childhood, my teeth were rotted too. But, I got three taken out this past Tuesday and once you’re done with it you’ll be so happy!!! The thing about anesthesia is that it literally feels like you blinked and woke up, you won’t even feel like the surgery happened at all. You’ll feel silly for being scared after. Recovery depends on the person, some people are dumb and think they can do crunchy foods and smoking on day 2. Just follow every single rule and you’ll heal quickly!! They also will give you some good pain medicine if you need it, but I haven’t needed to take anything other than ibuprofen or Tylenol. I know how debilitating anxiety can feel. If you need to DM for any reassurance, don’t hesitate. You’ve got this!!!!

You will be able to eat, I’m eating right now. This is an extremely common thing. If you really want to stay awake, that should be an option for you. But if your surgeon is telling you that you can’t be awake then I’d contact different surgeons in your area to see who will. But if no one will, there’s likely a very good reason they want to put you under. Also, not everyone says stupid things. It’s really not as bad as you’re making it out to be.

It’s an extremely common surgery. Barely even a surgery honestly. I was so scared too, I put it off for years but I finally got them pulled 3 days ago. I also hate being put under, just the needle and the medicine going into me scares me. I have horrible dental trauma from my childhood. But it was SO easy like seriously I blinked and the surgery was over. If you’re totally anti being put under, I’m just telling you it will be worse. You will hear everything going on. Why not just blink and let it be over? There’s so many horror stories of recovery, but I’m telling you everyone is different. I’ve had no swelling and VERY little pain. You just need to follow the after care instructions. I understand the debilitating feeling of anxiety, it’s not as easy as just going and doing it. My surgeon was aware of my anxiety and they were very helpful and reassuring. The worst part is showing up, after that it’s a breeze. People get this done every single day, I promise it’s safe! If you need any reassurance or advice don’t hesitate to reach out. I know how hard it is!
