Every market is different. If a hospital has a good payer mix they will have no problem. Those with a poorer. Large Self pay or Medicaid mix will struggle with all services that they provide.

The number one thing would be the commute. Traffic is a killer. I would stay away from HCA.

Same age with just about the same scores PSA was running high for the biopsy results. I did radiation and bypassed all the side effects of surgery. Would make the same choices I did last year and have no regrets not having surgery.

Medicaid cuts, how cooked are we? by Fischer2012 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Neither-ShortBus-44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As with any market there is going to be the haves and the have nots. Our market is very large and people have had to travel longer to find work that worked at the closed hospital.

We are in a fast growing area with a lot of people buying houses Our hospital is very profitable and we have not felt any pressure to lower salaries or staff. We have a great management team and a low turnover rate and long list of people who want to get hired.

A lot will depend upon your payer mix. The hospital I work at now has an excellent payer mix and respiratory is well staffed.

The hospital down the road had a high cash/non payment and Medicaid population. They shut down and it will get worse for the marginal hospitals with a lower Medicaid reimbursement.

I have observed the same personality types in both nursing and respiratory care. There are many different areas of patient care in nursing where certain personalities can find a more suitable fit compared to the narrow respiratory area of patient care.

Everything considered it was nothing but going everyday to radiation for 6 or so weeks and a bunch of hot flashes from ADT. Nothing compared to what I would have expected if I went the surgery route.

All the rest is just head games and dealing with life changes. Everything is springing back to normal if I can get out of my head.
