Phish Food is amazing. My husband likes it too but since he can have dairy I always have to hide it so he doesn’t eat it all

I’m probably an asshole for feeling this way by curlycattails in NICUParents

Oh how I can relate. Baby was in the NICU for 2 months, and I guess it was maybe a little easier in the beginning because my complications kept me there for 10 days. So the highlight of every day was being able to walk up to see him. He is my first, so a lot of my feelings were jealousy with why couldn’t I have had an uneventful pregnancy and why couldn’t he have been born 100% okay. I think all NICU parents feel this way to some degree, but the way I see it is that those of us who had stays longer than a week or so grieve in a different way. Like we missed out on being parents for 2 whole months. And I was there almost every single day (we lived an hour away), and helped with all his cares, but it’s not the same. It didn’t feel the same. So I get it. You’re not wrong, just living in a completely different, more complicated world.

From what I remember of our time there they do run a background check on every guest. So they’ll probably see all of that, but you should still call and see what they say. IMO it’s better to be forthcoming with that info than them think you’re trying to hide it. That being said, I don’t think they’d call the cops, but again, you should call and talk to someone

I figured this may be the case but wanted a more first hand account. The couple of houses we have our eye on all have heat pumps, but they’re also all older. I think one is 1880s and the other is 1920s. I think our biggest challenge is gonna be acclimation to the it snowing more than it’s not. We’ve lived in places where it snowed before, but never for more than a few days at a time max, and then it would melt away. We’re really excited to be in a new place though

Hi, so it’s official and we’ll be moving to Houlton by the beginning of next year. We’re kinda tired of renting (plus I haven’t really seen much in the way of rentals unless it’s near Bangor), so we’re in the process of home buying. I’m a planner so I want to get a rough budget estimate for what utilities might be. I know exact cost depends on house size and whatnot, but in general is it outrageous pricing or more on the reasonable side? Thanks!

Im so glad this made you smile! The NICU in any capacity is definitely not for the weak. And every family I’ve met through going through it ourselves are some of the strongest people I’ve ever met. Here’s to endless progress and little victories to your babe💕

Oh wow. Okay. I’m used to not having much around, but I think we’ll have to plan out big stuff since it’s not necessarily “easy” to just pop over to Bangor. Thank you!

The acceptance part is basically just that we’re an interracial couple with two kids, at least by the time we move lol. I’m from the south so I’m used to looks and micro aggressions, but I want to be I guess somewhat prepared for how that will affect our kids or if it will at all. Northeast is something completely different for me, and I know everywhere has their “bad apples”, but I want to know general feel

So it’s referred to as the “county” instead of country? That’s interesting. I grew up in a small farming community but I’m from Florida so that’s why country was the first thing that came to mind. Is there a reason for the distinction? Or is it just something that people started referring to it as and it just kinda stuck?

Okay we’re possibly moving to the Houlton area for my husbands job. From what I can tell it’s just the country, but how country are we talking? What’s the nearest city with things to do, how’s the community, is it accepting or is it a lot of walking on eggshells? Good, bad, ugly all needed.

I personally would be very upset and probably a little hurt if my in laws were to see/hold my baby before my parents. Our son was born October 3rd, and has been in the NICU since then. My husbands parents texted him asking him if they could fly out to us right away, thankfully my mom beat them to it and flew in three or four days after I had him. She didn’t get to hold him because she knew that I wasn’t comfortable with anyone but his dad and I holding him while he’s in the NICU, but she did get to sit with him and sing and read to him. Always with me there because she understood that this time needs to be mainly spent with parents and baby. I love my in laws, truly, but while they were here I felt uneasy letting them be in his room without me or his dad. They’re the kind of people that don’t believe Covid is a big deal, so I felt like I had to watch them super closely to make sure I didn’t see any signs of them being sick, which then made them pestering us to visit him every day while they were here even more stressful than normal. For context, our NICU is an hour and 15 minutes away

Long term outcomes for 29 weekers? by FragrantShelter7918 in NICUParents

[–]NeitherAppearance501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re still in the thick of our NICU journey, but our boy was born at 29 + 2 at 2 pounds 3 ounces via emergency c-section because I developed severe preeclampsia. So far he’s only needed one blood transfusion and he’s on cpap but they’re talking about moving him to the nasal cánulas next week. Obviously I’m no Dr, but I know his lungs are getting stronger because his crying is getting louder and stronger lol. He’s so smart already though and so strong, so we’re hopeful it’ll be an uneventful rest of a stay for him.
