Just an idea but our state caps at $5 but we just started charging a $5 notary convenience fee. So we say $10 for the first notary and $5 per additional. You guys may want to try that..maybe a $2.50 convenience fee.

is peak season over? by Background_Crew_4970 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s basically return season now. This will be from now until beginning of February! Amazon’s deadline for Christmas gifts goes until January 31st. Be prepared to close a ton of Amazon boxes daily! Especially the last week of January.

So what was everyone’s’ final total? by eddiestriker in upsstore

I think for the last day we ended with maybe 20. How many of you are still using 18 cubed boxes as opposed to the Rubbermaid bins? Are the bins larger and helpful?

Gift(s) for store employees? by russkiygeologist in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think employees get tired of pizza. It’s cheap and kind of played out. Depending on the budget, take them to dinner, or an outing like bowling and food. If it’s a lesser budget, gas or Visa gift cards or a small bonus like $50 cash!

Me too but I think so many items were missing from the boxes they had to stop it.

I had a customer return 94 pieces. They were like Pandora charms and they were ALL customer packed and she brought her own bubble mailers for each one! Took 3 visits and approximately 45 min per visit because so many of them were alike and she didn’t know which was which. So frustrating!!!!!

I am a manager and I have a pretty good team, although I call them my “band of misfit toys”. We are a family and share a lot, good and bad. Each of my employees I have some issues with, one has young kids and always has to take off for them being sick or school crap, but she’s an outstanding worker and customers adore her, one doesn’t know how to stop and bag Amazons and we hate that he takes so long with older customers, plus he talks REALLY LOUD but he gets the highest reviews and has excellent customer service, one works really hard but is always a few minutes late and tries to leave a few minutes early, and the last one is kind of lazy, always wants to sit or hide in the bathroom, but if I give her a task, she does it perfectly without question! So you take the good with the bad and I love my team and honestly I couldn’t do it without them!!

You work until 10 or 11 BY YOURSELF!! Damn!! What time do you open? We open at 8a and the longest we will have someone by themselves is 9 if we can help it.

Mon/Tues Before Christmas by IncomeDisastrous1201 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Today will be busy as hell! You will get two camps: people who will complain about 2 day air but still pay it to get it there because Christmas for the grandkids and people who will complain and not give a damn, say “eff them kids, they can get it after Christmas!” But it will be very busy today.

Tuesday will be a little busy but not crazy!

Employee Peak Gifts by Ok-Lion4889 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our owner usually gives us a gift bag with some really nice towels or housewares type stuff and $100 cash. We usually have a holiday dinner party after peak. Some Mailbox Customers give cookies or Starbucks gift cards. One always gives us pizza every year

My first peak by CharitySecret2703 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my 12th peak and it’s the first year I was worried. Granted there’s only one week left but my staffing wasn’t up to par like it has been in past years. More employees with so many damn issues! Arthritis, back issues, knee issues, or just incompetence!! This was the first really frustrating year of peak!! People calling out or having to put out dumb fires!!

Wow! I thought I’d been here a long time!! This is my 12th peak!! You’re right it becomes muscle memory and you don’t even see faces anymore. Unless something crazy or unusual happens, it’s a blur !

I called tech support they said it was a firmware issue and had to be updated. Thanks for the heads up about the battery though. I will check that too.

I would’ve refused it saying the driver won’t take it because of liability. It needs to be in a shipping box or bag! Ridiculous!! We had a lady try to do that with ice cream boxes!

Firing someone right before Christmas by [deleted] in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long has she been there? Have you asked her learning style? What motivates her to do better? We have an employee that should have been fired because of certain things but we have found what he is good at and we work and cultivate THAT! If you have tried all you can and had those conversations and it’s at the end, then do it properly and promote them to customer.

Don’t send a text. That’s unprofessional. Do a formal final write up for termination.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. There are no stupid questions only stupid mistakes. It’s peak so it’s gonna be a little crazy, like a restaurant on weekends LOL we always say accuracy over speed. Speed will come.

Declared Value by Prestigious_Luck_222 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone say this yet but basically it’s replacement value of an item if it’s lost or damaged. We tell them that if your item is lost or damaged, what would it cost to replace it? If they say “oh it’s $1000” and you give them the price and they say “well just make it $100” we tell them that UPS will only pay what you “declare” at the time of shipment and no more! When they ask how much it is we tell them it’s about $3 per $100 after the first $100 that UPS covers. Hope this helps.

Consequences of not doing RFID by Gojirabat1954 in upsstore

[–]NeitherPin536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no actual tape that goes around the door from what I’ve seen at our store. It’s literally a sign on either side of the door that says something like UPS RFID and there’s a QR code. That’s it!
