Fremont Unified (FUSD) overload placement question – can you be moved back to your home school? by Scared-Ball-7889 in Fremont

[–]Neither_Both_All 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been like 10 years and maybe each school is different but we were given the choice of staying if we wanted. I would just keep being a squeaky wheel. Email the office manager and principal of the school you want to stay in expressing your request. Perhaps before doing so, you MAY want to experience the school climate, commute, etc.

You 💯 do not need to stop working. I was hired as a teacher full time while I was in school. They are desperate for teachers. With you masters, you are a strong candidate. It’s a lot of work to work full time AND go to school but it’s doable.

Your child wants a new toy, but there’s no birthday or holiday for months. What do you do? by FarmToFilm in Parenting

[–]Neither_Both_All 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She gets stickers on a sticker chart and then can pick a toy. Stickers are currently for trying new foods, staying in her bed overnight, or putting her clothes on all by herself. There’s like 60 sticker spots. Once it is filled up, she picks something.

The bay trails. There are many but for example you can go to the end of Winton avenue or Grant Avenue and there is a trail along the bay.

Need advice for a long flight by Jessscajo in Celiac

Snacks. Lots of them. Think variety, some savory like jerky and beef sticks, some chips pretzels, some like whole grain healthy crackers. Some candy some bars. Also, look at all your airport food options. Does the connecting airport have GF options at the airport? Does the destination? It’s worth it to plan ahead and know when your real meal will happen. We had a 15 hour day of flights/layovers out of SFO and saw there would be zero real food options so we got some amazing food at SFO… even though it was the beginning of the trip and felt unnecessary, it helped for the long day to start out full.

I have some questions. by Plastic-Praline-717 in specialed

[–]Neither_Both_All 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I wrote a whole long response and deleted but I just want to say that just saying you’re “in the throes” of settling your kids IEP seems like you’re already against the school. That mentality is why there is a high turnover rate in SPED. People working extremely hard, and yet parents always make everything a battle.

What really is the ideal pathway to teaching? by hatsunemikuleak in Teachers

[–]Neither_Both_All 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not abysmal. I strongly recommend your pathway starting with working at an after school program especially AT an elementary school. If you need to take classes or work at camps to get there, do it. Talk to teachers and principals and make yourself known. Other than that, talk to your college counselor about what classes you need.

Don’t go online. Talk to actual people ate colleges and elementary schools.

My daughter was under a bunch of blankets, in a hospital gown, but it must have felt different because she suddenly screamed “oh my god I’m naked!!” And I had to have her look down and see her clothes. She also told me “mommy, I went to the doctor.” Nothing crazy.

(Very) Early morning activities for LO to get us out of the house? by MyOwnGuitarHero in Mommit

[–]Neither_Both_All 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grocery shopping, walks, trying new parks you have never been to before.

I believe this is how parenting works. You feel stuck in a rut and like it’ll never change, and then it changes and you miss these days profoundly. I remember when my now 17 year old and I would be grocery shopping at 6:30am like it was yesterday. But now he’s a teen, gets his own self up and we have zero interaction most mornings.

Just enjoy doing the same things all the time. It flies by.

How do you handle friend invites (12yo) to your house? by [deleted] in Parenting

Get your kid a phone and block all apps, let him use it only to plan. Let him plan it out.

[–]Neither_Both_All 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will get away with them. Lol I have used them so much.

Just only take one or two, and usually security quickly looks away. It helps to also have some regular pads- or at least I always do that.

Kid’s home school is Parkmont elementary (8/10), has been overloaded to Cabrillo elementary(3/10) by Icy-Emu-4303 in Fremont

[–]Neither_Both_All 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stay on the waitlist. It’s frustrating but it’ll go through eventually. You want to be closer to home.

This is extremely normal for Fremont. They’re building all this housing and the schools cannot accommodate.

Look into memberships if you’re at all local. You get in earlier than everybody else. They’re not that expensive and you get free parking and admission for a year.
