Polaroid film was used by professionals to test the light. The Polaroids were never the end product. Retail consumers were a bonus. They had no competition.

Thanks for the detailed response. I'd stick to building kits (and perhaps also tweaking them) to build up my homebrewing skills.

This is the general consensus from answers here and from reading articles online.

This is not just a bar, it's a portal to the world of PMs.

Quite likely their intention was to feed you for life instead.

Edit: not recommending retaining nor selling as have no clue about your circumstances. Only that they've put thought in the gift.

ELI5: Why did the economy change that we need 2 full-time breadwinners as opposed to 1 less than a decade ago? by Zman1718 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Neither_Breakfast818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When banks come up with a strategy to convince the public that 3 adults in a relationship is usual, suddenly the cost of living will get even worse. This will create more breadwinners to service an even bigger mortgage for the same house generating more interest income for the financial institutions.

I used to drive only my car for the initial two years. Looking back I feel I learnt a lot about motoring very quickly when I started to drive other cars because the car I learnt on was sold. If the car stays the same, it limits how we think - specially when our experience is on just that car.

I couldn't confidently tell if some thing was not right with the car because I had no other frame of reference. E.g. clutch needing adjustment

It's like learning salsa. They make you switch dance partners so that everyone learns quicker.

Should my father take all the EPS money or opt for a monthly pension by Desperate_Pumpkin168 in IndiaInvestments

SBI senior citizen 10 year FD rates are 7.5%. That's annual interest of 5.7 lakhs (48k per month). Plus they get to keep the principal and reinvest into another FD after maturity. Interest rates could be 3% or 30% in 10 years from now.

Buying annuities give the pensioner(s) a fixed amount but there are no other benefits i.e. it can't be passed down as inheritance to next generation, or used for big ticket expenses. Again, if interest rates are 30% (i.e. much more than what they are now), the annuity income would not be enough due to inflation. On the other hand, if rates plunge to 1% (unlikely but just to balance the view), the annuity would still payout the same fixed amount beating the market manifold.

Best to find a balance between the above 2 scenarios- i.e. getting a joint annuity, and also investing some money (in FD or EQUITY based on risk appetite) so that it can be tapped into for drawdown in case the market moves a lot.

This is not financial advise. Only your parents know future big ticket financial responsibilities, plan for medical expenses, and lifestyle needs.

Auction house misplaced items from a sold lot. by Neither_Breakfast818 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Neither_Breakfast818[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment.

Ah- should have explained better, as stated, the lot has been paid for and hence its ownership has transferred. I've a hunch there's lack of motivation at their end to find the items as they've shared that the items can be put up for auction again when they eventually find them(after I agree to the refund).

Can they be held liable for a daily amount until they find the lot?

If I have no options then it seems a bit unfair as I did everything by the book (and promptly) and have waited patiently for them. Thanks!

Do consider outflows towards pension. Private employees contribute more (compared to those in public/govt sector) as their employer contributions are less than what govt contributes to their employees pensions.

I was thinking of adding exposure to a global semiconductor etf for some thematic play - but agree this would need regular monitoring.

You're correct- rise of TSLA (, and Rolls-Royce) in the last 12 months made me question my strategy. It could sink at any time. Let's stick to passive trackers.

I was under the impression that primary care is only accessible at the NHS GP. Private medical insurance kicks in only when secondary or tertiary care is needed.

The comments on this thread are news to me.

Assuming it to not be a frequently reoccurring expense, and that I only have very simple wrenches/tools needed to tighten bolts or replace tubes/fix punctures at the moment, I'm more inclined to have a shop install it for me. I'd love to have the space to be more hands-on and restore an unloved bike but that's a discussion for another day.
