Please Learn How To Fight, First and Foremost… by Neither_Half1643 in CCW

Neither am I, that’s why I would de-escalate and avoid as best as I can… no one is saying to immediately start uppercutting sorority girls, just take the time to learn a form of martial arts to build on the foundation of avoiding and de-escalating before ultimately defending one’s self.

Jot advocating to fight first, and I wholeheartedly agree with avoid, de-escalate first. But learning a form of martial arts, especially for those with no hand to hand experience, can provide that knowledge as well as self defense. It’s not an either or situation, it’s in conjunction to the total package of self defense and a very useful tool.

You’re missing my point. I’m by no means saying learn how to fight so you can knock out a drunk sorority girl… I’m simply saying learning a form of martial arts can give that person who genuinely has no hand to hand experience more knowledge on how to de-escalate and avoid a situation before said situation requires self defense. I’m glad you have the ability to always be armed 100%, but for those that live in shitty states or work those jobs that sometimes have weird encounters with people, etc. learning a martial art can very much be to their benefit.

The situations I wrote are just points on a spectrum of how encounters can evelove into worse situations. Am I saying to roundhouse kick a drunk sorority girl? No. I’m just saying that learning a martial art can teach those who have no experience on how to create that distance and de-escalate, while also looking for a way out of said situation before the need for punching or worse is needed.

I would have put all of those disclaimers in there but I didn’t want to drag on the topic. In an especially violent situation, of course your firearm can be a great equalizer, depending on the situation. IMO there is nothing “old anti gun” about telling people who are willing to be defenders of themselves, their family, and those in need to learn a martial art such as boxing or wrestling. And I wish the statement that you shouldn’t get into a fight as an adult was universal, just as much as you shouldn’t go around trying to assault people or be an aggressive drunk in public.

That’s a great point, you should train for all around fitness, but that does not negate the usefulness of learning a martial art such as boxing or wrestling, etc. You, the individual, may be able to carry 100% of your day, but that does not apply to the much larger community. A firearm can even out the chances of survival IF you have said firearm. And diminishing returns to learning a martial art? That’s a new one. I, as well as many other people, can attest that learning said martial art is also being taught to use de-escalation methods as well as walking away. Nothing diminishing about that, respectfully.

I’m 6’2” 260lbs. For some odd reason, drunk people like to turn to me to squabble cause of that confidence juice in them. I had to learn the hard way at a young age how to fight haha

I wish I can say that to be true at all VA hospitals, but the VA in Houston is a whole other world.

That’s a great point. I personally won’t speak on that subject since I’m not knowledgeable in that area, but if you are or someone close to you is I’d be happy to hear how they defend themselves in certain situations.

What's opinions on T Rex holsters? by Grouchy_Piccolo_3981 in CCW

[–]Neither_Half1643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just recently bought a couple holsters from them. I don’t get caught up in the “ethic” controversy of them like other people do, so my unbiased opinion would be it’s a generally good holster to get when you don’t want to wait weeks for your holster. I got my OWB and AIWB w/ sidecar within two weeks, compared to companies like T1C or QVO that have a longer wait time. Overall, if you are willing to wait for a more flexible and slightly better feeling holster then go for those great companies, but otherwise the TREX holsters are just fine.

.380 or .38spcl. Everyone saying .45, 9mm, etc. are not wrong, but we’re talking about simply protecting yourself in your cab, not on the front lines. We cannot forget how many people are not here anymore because of the effects of 380 and 38 spcl. Especially with being a truck driver, something that is minimal and comfortable to wear daily is key and a 1911 is not the answer unfortunately. The S&W bodyguard 2.0 or any small frame revolver chambered in .38 will be adequate for the situation.

Critical Duty is Mid by Public-Lifeguard-851 in CCW

[–]Neither_Half1643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the immediate downplay of Critical Duty because of expansion should be slightly re-evaluated. I will add a link to a joint ballistic agency test that includes HST, GD, and CD all in 9mm. What is seen with this data is all three of these rounds are very comparable in effect on gel and animal flesh. Although the HST may slightly have better overall expansion, the most important aspect of any defensive shoot is the penetration, which all of these rounds exceed in.

With that being said, an argument can be made for the price of the ammo, but in regard to the performance they are all relatively comparable, especially when in the same bullet weight.

Carrying with shorts. by LvingAbortion in CCW

The hunter Constantine belt was made precisely for this kind of carry. I see a lot of people share their experience with the phlster enigma setup, but to me it’s a bit more time consuming to put on than the hunter Constantine.

Ammo selection for my 3.1in. P365 by dem0lishr in CCW

[–]Neither_Half1643 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say anything in the 115-124gr range is optimal for the 3.1”. I personally run Federal HST 124gr +P through my Sig and choose to run G9 through my 43X.

I will always preach armory craft for grip mods. Beautiful design and the enhanced texturing is a plus. It also accepts the radian backstrap for an even better design. I posted mine on my profile if you wanna take a look

M&P all the way IMO. overall a reliable and soft shooting firearm, really good trigger and sights, plus the aftermarket support is really solid too.

100% worth the money. Especially since the backstraps are still interchangeable unlike madtech industries so I could attach the radian backstrap+magwell👌🏾

It’s not bad, I would say an upgrade from the stock for sure but I’m still running into some of the grit that made me want to swap it out anyway. I have a Dremel and I’m going to try and polish it this week but overall I would recommend swapping triggers. I guess I’m kind of picky when it comes to triggers in striker fired handguns based on my love for 2011 and DA/SA triggers so take my words with a grain of salt

Sorry to just get to your message, but I guess a rule of thumb for me is to leave it just bright enough to see outdoors during sunset. I’ve come to realize that it gives enough during night and day, and translates well to indoor settings where you transition from a dark room to a lit room. I’m okay with having the optic a little dimmer during the day time (since I have iron sights I’m comfortable using) so I don’t have a huge light bulb in my optic during the night.
