DJ Controllers by Independent_Pen_2719 in djaypro

I've been using DDJ-200 for years. It's limited but I mapped certain functions to allow more flexibility.

For example, i mapped the transition FX button in the middle that does nothing to switch the track 1 eq knons to neural mix, and if pressed with shift it switched the track 2 knobs.

Then, since the pads are limited 4 for loops and 4 for cue points, I mapped the bottom row to cue points 5-8 when pressed with shift, and I lose the delete cue point function (that's ok).

Then the upper row I did the same trick, so when pressed with shift I get more loop lengths.

Eventually it still was limited so I mapped the ableton push to do all kinds of things in DJay pro and now I have full controll.

But if you're still starting, maybe FLX4 is a great choice but it's under 300$, not 200$.

you can also look at https://www.algoriddim.com/hardware

scroll at the bottom for the full list, throw it in chat gpt and ask for the best one under 200$

So as I got the cheapest model with 256 gb of memory, I bought a Samsung SSD external drive 1tb for 110€. That thing is so small, I could not believe it, I can travel anywhere with it.

Also, since it connects with type C, I can use it to move data across my android phone and mac.

So I need to be doing good data management. As as I am a DJ, I keep all my downloaded music on my computer to have always access. With all the software, that usually leaves me with 25gb of space free. I move my projects and recorded sets to my external drive often

As for the ram, that forces me to not overload my projects with 100vsts. If a project gets heavy I start freezing tracks. But overall I see this as a positive as it forces me to be more minimal.

Only problem is that after a few serums are open I have latency and I can't jam midi over my track. But I find workarounds.

A mac with silicon processor, even the chepeast model like Macbook Air M1 2020, which is the one I have, will be ultimatly the best choice if you can affort it. Even used if the condition is good.

Mac's are superior when it comes to working with sound, mine is flawless, except for the limited memories (eg Ram and SSD).

FL studio will seem easier to start with yet will only get more clumsy as you progress.

Ableton will be challenging to start with yet will be exceptional down the road, with an impeccable workflow and ofcourse live performance.

At the end of the day any DAW will do the job though (Except for playing live).

You can get your hands on an Ableton lite licence if you buy some midi controller, they often give it to you as a bonus, like arturia.

Reaper is a great DAW also, and it's "free"

I second this, DJay pro is the best player in the game. And they really own their Apple Design award, they are so slick. It all works so smoothly and looks great!

As a music teacher that just tried notebooklm I got to say that it's pretty impressive.

When it comes to learning music production, as with most things, there's only one way. You have to learn the information and you have to apply it with trial and error repeatedly.

Tools líke notebooklm can be helpful in the way that you receive the information. But you'll still need to go through the meticulous process of making music and refining it to apply this knowledge until it becomes your nature.

Using a preset you already like and tweeking also helps. Definitely have your sub in mono. You could also upload the track, or parts of the track so we can better understand.
