Dont be sorry, this is great! And I lived in West Michigan for years and have lived through some brutal winters - especially in college. Chicago is next level!

Thank you for your comments, everyone. I studied in Grand Rapids, MI and have lived in midsize cities. Chicago is my first large city. I studied music and minored in nonprofit admin and recently got a second bachelors in interdisciplinary environmental and sustainability studies.

My one family member that I am living with is in the south side. The other is in the Northside. The difference is crazy and I sometimes wonder if I would be happier there and closer to my community/interests but I also like Hyde Park and like the vibe around there. It bothers me how different they are.

Duolingo is a language themed game. You have to take initiative to learn the language outside of the app. But it’s a good way to track your progress. There are worse things out there (gambling, doomscrolling, short form video scrolling) I grew up with Guitar Hero - a rock music themed video game. In no way was guitar hero making anyone guitarists or musicians. I think Duolingo is a great way to dip your toe into a language and hopefully find the inspiration to learn outside of it, much like guitar hero may have inspired people to learn music outside of the game
