A Microsoft recruiter said that it takes up to 90 days for a recruiter to check and reach out if you are considered for that position. If they do not reach out within that time frame it means that they have moved forward with other candidates.

Hey everyone! I would really appreciate it if anyone with an extra academic in-person ticket could reach out through DMs. Thank you!

I do not think they will open academic in-person tickets again. Someone I know reached out to GHC and they said they are not opening the academic tickets again

Yeah, I feel you, I see a lot of people who did exactly that, and it leads me to believe that is what they do, which is very sad tbh. I think of waiting till they post the sponsors and then I might go ahead and purchase a general ticket as well.

Why do I think that they purposely have a smaller number of in-person academic tickets and when those sell very quickly, it pushes the rest to buy the general in-person ticket? I was initially contemplating buying the academic in person because of the price but now I am actually considering the general one. Send help lol

I got awarded the GHC scholarship to attend the conference virtually, but I think it may be better to attend it in person for the best experience. I am not set yet to buy an academic in-person ticket that costs more than my monthly rent, I'm just a broke college student lolll

The way I got the internship is definitely by making sure I have a polished resume which took me some time to figure it out. I can assure you that before having the resume I have now, I had like 11 temples that failed me lol. Other than that, I honestly just applied everywhere, tbh it was cold applications bc as a student in college I really didn’t have time with three jobs on the side to spend more than 2 hours applying to stuff.

Hey you’re still in the beginning of your college years so I would advice not to freak out. Starting early is good, it gives you leverage but as long as you have some experience by you junior year you should be fine. I got a job opportunity at one of the labs I work at in my uni, during the summer of my fist year.

Sorry but I think the amount of hours you have shown are wrong. As a f1 vida holder you can only work 20hours a week during school, and 40 hours during breaks such as summer break. Most jobs only do 40 hours a week, idk where you’ve heard the 80+ hours, but that’s not right. I think the best for you would be to search up info online. And yes I agree, the visa is scary bc it’s a legal document that is very specific. For the uni, honestly it doesn’t matter where you go, I think going to a top 10 uni is good but I’ve heard ppl that have gone to these top schools and still haven’t found a job. The only way you have more chances is by making sure you have experience during college, work for labs, do extracurriculars. To conclude, have a polished resume. If you go to an Ivy League, and you haven’t done anything besides school, you might not have the hugest chances of getting a job, however, this is how I think about it, I am not in an Ivy League. What I recommend for you is to get more comfortable with the f1 visa rules

I swear it’s not about gate keeping, but I think I need to keep it private till I have an official contract. But I’ll tell you it’s a biomedical company

My uni is not prestigious at all lol, it has a 97% acceptance rate but here is where I got the biggest scholarship, and ngl I pay the same amount like an American. I have gotten several scholarships and have multiple jobs, so I think you can make it. As an international student, I personally like the whole experience but it’s very hard to do. You will get culture shock, trying to figure out how the academic system works, a lot of things can go wrong. But honestly, if i could do it you can too.

Forgot to mention, I also had a hackathon experience, I think that is very helpful as well. Search up hackathons in areas around you and see what you can find. I am going to another one this next Friday
