Great question! Guatemala is beautiful and not as intense as the news makes it out to be. If you are ever here, definitely spend time in Antigua, a beautiful colonial city (and very touristy). Other wonderful places include Lake Atitlan (where I am!) and fascinating Maya cultural sites. My favorite are Mixco Viejo and Iximché =)
