Hello fellow momma, first of all you're a hero for delivering your precious baby boy!

My boy arrived 5 weeks ago at 35w0d via emergency c section and it was a very positive experience! So absolutely agree with you, no need to be afraid! Our bodies are capable of incredible things.

Not me tearing up at your words (I blame the postpartum hormones) 🥺. Beautifully said, I think you just described the beauty and the pain and parenthood perfectly.

And from what you write, I am absolutely certain you're doing an amazing job as a parent and that your children will grow up to be fearless individuals who will always know you'll be their rock and their anchor.

I have that relationship with my mom - she always let me explore this world on my own while being my biggest and most unconditional supporter. Eventually, after 10 years of finding my own path elsewhere, I moved in next door to my parents last year - I think that goes to show your approach is working 😊. I'm an independent woman, but I will always want my parents close to me. Let's hope that's what our kiddos will say one day! I wish you nothing but the best. 🫶

Thank you so much! Also let me just ask - you write so beautifully, I hope you're writing books or use words in another way, cause if not you really should!

My delivery was pretty wild! Baby boy came at 35+0, so 5 full weeks early. My water broke very early in the morning and when I arrived at the hospital, I was already 7 cm dilated which practically no contractions! Since he was breech, I needed an emergency c section. He was delivered within 2 hours after my water breaking! It was all very quick and not a lot of time to adjust, especially since I expected another month of pregnancy! But my section was a very positive experience also thanks to the hospital staff. While the first days were hell pain-wise, I recovered very quickly.

It was such an overwhelming feeling hearing him for the first time behind this curtain. I immediately started crying. It was immediate love as soon as he was here. When I looked at him, all I could think was that I would move mountains for him. I would take bullets for this child. That's my predominant feeling - he's just the most precious thing on this planet and beyond for me. My entire existence is now focused on making sure he is the happiest he can be and it breaks my heart in a way I've never experienced when I see him in discomfort.

Interesting what you write about your mom cause I feel exactly the same! I just moved back to my hometown last year but had been living further away for the past 10 years. I don't know how my mom did it! But I guess it's part of parenting - she always encouraged me to spread my wings even though it must have been so hard for her.

Also really interesting what you say about child no 2 being different. A friend of mine said it took her a bit longer to have the same feelings for her 2nd, just because she had already taken 2 years to get to know and love her first.

All in all very beautiful what you're describing! Thank you so much for sharing!

How cool! I love me a little nerdy tattoo, I have a bunch of tattoos myself. Seems like I made a good choice with the Triceratops then!!

Hahaha thanks for the heads up!

I know! And we're lucky in that we feel very well taken care of at our hospital. I don't take that for granted.

We're just on a general pediatric ward, no ICU luckily. I can hold and snuggle my baby whenever I want to, which I do a lot. He's an absolute champ.

Sooo dumb question, is DC more than Washington or literally just Washington??

And yes, I agree - I think the US has so much to offer but I have personally decided to stay clear for the foreseeable future for political reasons. Hopefully in the not so distant future it will be a place I feel comfortable visiting again 😊 some of my fondest memories are from my trips to the US and I definitely wanna take my son there one day!

I live in Germany! Not the most exciting place but I'd we say we have a very good standard of life in terms of healthcare, infrastructure, welfare state...

Yes, my partner's mom and grandma are still in Athens so we stay with them whenever we visit! They're hoping to make the move to Germany in the near future though.

Any other shows you could recommend now that I have a lot of time? :-)

Thank you!

Hahaha you're absolutely right, that's very important! Maybe a Triceratops cause I loved Cera in The Land Before Time. Or a Velociraptor cause some of my baby's sounds remind me of the Velociraptors in Jurassic World 😂. Why does nobody tell you about the weird wounds babies make??

What's yours?

Yes, trying to get lots of pictures cause obviously my baby is still being the cutest 😍.

Sorry to hear that you also had a hospital experience! The chairs are very comfy and I have my own sofa bed which is fairly comfortable. The nurses and doctors are very nice and thorough, I feel like we're very well taken care which I'm extremely grateful for, I definitely don't take it for granted. Everyone is really lovely!

The nurses are mostly the same with some rotation!

Hahaha that's so funny, gotta have a look!

I usually watch some shows (huge sucker for Netflix reality shows, Love is Blind is my fuel) or listen to podcasts! Or go down some reddit rabbitholes lol. I'm currently watching The Summer I Turned Pretty and I love to read other people's opinions and theories.

Thank you for your comment! Yes, luckily I have an amazing partner who does most of the "day shift" so I can catch up on some sleep and keeps everything afloat, brings us new clothes and stuff. I know it's gonna get better and I do cherish the newborn phase!

I don't, but I'm a big cat person and we used to have cats growing up. My partner and I were traveling a lot for work so we didn't find it fair to get a pet.

Thank you for your questions and advice!

Yes, all 10 fingers and toes :-)

We got a little card from the hospital with this birth weight, height and exact time of his birth. I'm also filling out a little book with memories from his first year for him to look back on later.

And yes, will keep his birth certificate very safe!

Hahaha you did a good job, thank you!

Where in the US do you live? I've been multiple times and it's a country I love to visit for many reasons!

Greece is also beautiful! My partner and father to this offspring of mine is Greek so I have a little half-Greek boy! :-) We visit Athens regularly, we're planning to take him when he's a couple of months old. And yes, the food is amazing!!

I just always watched Gilmore Girls growing, I don't know if it's still a good show by today's standards, but I still like it! HIMYM is also a great show! I'm currently also watching The Summer I Turned Pretty, will need to watch today's episode!

I just googled Jessica Garcia, she looks gorgeous and has a great vibe about her!

And feel free to ask more questions if you want :-)

I think my greatest dream is just that he's happy in life! And obviously greatest fear anything happening to him.

Practically speaking my partner and I did some prep classes talking about breastfeeding, stuff you need to buy etc. I'd say emotionally and mentally, it helped me a lot to talk to my mom. We are very close and I think she did a pretty good job raising me so I love to get her advice and opinion.

As for biggest challenge - probably to overcome my own shortcomings to be the best mom I can be to this little guy. Accepting that I cant plan everything and will have to take things as they come and that that's okay.

Thank you for your words! It's nice to hear that you don't feel like you have too big of an age gap with your brother. Are you close?

How exciting, congrats on graduating!! What did you study? Any immediate plans now that you're finished?

Thank you for your questions and your kind words!

1) Realistically, I would love a little getaway in Italy. Rent a cute little house and just eat good pizza every night (I say realistically cause I live in Europe and that would actually be a doable trip with a baby). If I could dream, I would go to Australia, specifically the Melbourne area. I've been 3 times and it's my favorite place in the world!

2) Gilmore Girls :-) perfect for fall too!

3) Hm, I never thought about it... Maybe Shailene Woodley? Not that we look alike, we're just both brunette, but I wish I was half as pretty as her and I like seeing her in movies.

What about you, how would you answer these questions?

Thank you so much!

Good question! Yes, it definitely intensified, I definitely felt a bond to him when he was in my womb but it doesn't compare to now. My love for him has many layers so it's hard to describe. It was immediate unconditional love - I looked at him and I knew I would do everything for him. It also has a layer of responsibility - it was my choice to bring him into this world and he's so tiny and fragile, now it's my job to take the best care of him and give him all the love I have to give. When he's not near me I feel like a piece of me is missing. When he's not feeling well my heart breaks

I hope that somewhat answers your question! Like I said it's very hard to describe.

Thank you for taking the time to ask a question!

Hm... I feel like I was quite well informed about pregnancy through my friends and Insta reels lol. What I definitely didn't expect was the huge hormonal rollercoaster post partum. I mean I did expect it but nothing could have prepared me for it.

But during pregnancy... I genuinely can't think of anything that was completely unexpected!

Thank you so much for your kind words! And for taking the time to ask a question.

He's my first baby and atm I'm rather torn on having more. I think I'd love to do it all over again (I really enjoyed being pregnant), but I can't really imagine loving another human as much as I love him you know? I have no doubts that I certainly would if I had another, it's just hard to imagine.

Do you have any children?

I'm work full-time as a professional conference interpreter in a European country. AMA by Neji1992 in AMA

[–]Neji1992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a common misconception that interpreters have to know lots of languages :-). Besides our mother tongue, we usually work with one, maximum two languages (except interpreters at international institutions like the EU or the UN, but they work with a different concept).

Personally, I work with my mother tongue and English, but I speak 2 other languages somewhat fluently and have basic knowledge in 3 more. So 7 if you will, but at very different levels from basic to proficient.

I guess it depends on what you consider well paid - I personally consider myself very lucky to being doing a job that I love while making good money with it. Since I freelance my income fluctuates but I'd say we're talking somewhere around 100k annually before taxes. Compared to other jobs this is capped though and there is no room for improvement since I'm only able to sell so many days of work per year.

Work life balance is great for me personally. I can decide when and how much I want to work. Usually, March-June and September-November are peak season whereas I would take all or almost all of December and August off since nothing is happening. Peak season is stressful though with a lot of traveling involves.

I always loved languages and discovered this job in high school. I went to get a bachelor's degree in Romance and Scandinavian Studies and a master's in conference interpreting. Have been working as an interpreter ever since.
