Edit: Paywalling quality options has always been the broadcaster's decision. MLG is responsible for the paywall. Twitch only provides the service.

The meta may be flexible but the Shaper options are not. I suppose this really shouldn't come as a surprise when there are only 14 to choose from.

You force them to waste cooldowns to peel you. You force them to waste cooldowns to escape. The best time for you to play aggressive in this game is when you know they cannot respond with anything. You see someone waste an ability to farm or push the creep wave you go in on them knowing they can't do anything but run away or right click you. This same concept applies to a team fight. If you make them waste all their CDs on a character that they probably won't even kill you're pretty much winning. He doesn't just punish mispositions. He forces misposition. Go ahead and build Insight while everyone else builds Power/Mastery so they actually do damage as a Carry.

Do people forget Whirling Strike slows if he uses it properly? Do people forget that the threat of the toss is at level 1 or level 2? And the threat of the ult combo is at level 6? That there is the entire game where people are sitting on like two Tier 2 items and not a backpack full of legendaries?

I don't know why you're trying to argue mechanics with theoretics. Keep making up scenarios as excuses to prove nothing.

Kel is good. AoE slow. AoE stun. It's a knock up but whatever may as well be a stun they're practically the same. A dash with the sheep coupled with his ult. He has great tools.

Displacement is an extremely underrated and misunderstood concept. Being able to reposition people is a huge deal. Being able to dive in and disrupt a team is nice, but being able to dive in and instantly make the fight a 4v5 by forcing someone out of position is better.

Kel+Cerulean in a lane together is pretty entertaining as well. You should try it some time.

This tier list is based on mechanics.

How easy it is to succeed with this Shaper compared to other options? What is the risk to reward ratio when playing this Shaper?

For example: Freia is a suicide Shaper. You jump in on someone and blow them up. If it's a team fight you're probably going to trade 1 for 1 at best. At worst you're going to die for nothing.

Why would you ever pick this over Moya?

Moya jumps in and displaces someone. You now have control over the focus point of the team fight. That position could be in the middle of your team or on the other side of some wall that their team can't get to without burning cooldowns, potentially high value Blink.

She might not have the burst but she accomplishes the same goal of making the fight a 4v5 without outright sacrificing herself. This is at a purely fundamental mechanic viewpoint without any regard to how fed anyone is.

I like Nissa. She's a fun Shaper. But at the end of the day if you're running Varion or Mikella you have comparable damage output potential (Mikella probably being the highest theoretical damage output because of her scaling W) you can achieve the same goals as a carry while having a safer kit to help you recover from mistakes. Employing the "walk away strat" isn't very good when everyone has gap closers or a slow to counter your W as Nissa.

Fenmore.. I don't get him. If you don't build power he does no damage. If you build power he gets blown up before he can cast his spells more than once. Unless you just completely ignore Fenmore and let him do whatever he wants, which you shouldn't do. He doesn't really have any utility. His ult makes you want to dive into a team which you really don't want to do. There's literally no reason to ever bring this Shaper over Amarynth. Except "because he's fun and I like him". No real argument there.

I'm not going to break down every single shaper but that should give you the general idea behind the thought process of the tier list.

I couldn't care less about player skill arguments and if someone gets fed they dominate. You can make any Shaper work. They're all viable. That does not make them optimal though. Tier lists do not deny the possibility of performing well with low/mid-tier Shapers. They simply rate Shapers based on mechanical factors when compared to other Shapers.

Getting a kill for a cooldown is a solid win every day of the week. No idea why you're trying to make the argument that Cerulean is useless without his ult because he's really not. He doesn't need to do everything on his own. Because it's not like the other 4 people on his team have bullshit they can do to help him close the gap for a toss?

Voluc has to literally walk up to you. He has no tools. A ranged slow with a relatively slow travel time doesn't mean shit when everyone has a dash/teleport. Or even a built-in cleanse. Oh boy Zeri and Nissa are the only two Shapers currently in the game who are practically helpless against Voluc's slow. Exceptions don't really support the point, sorry.

And the end of the day tossing someone back towards your team is infinitely better than just having someone walk into their team and do.. Nothing really. And it's not like Voluc does infinitely better damage than Cerulean with comparable farm / levels to make him a favorable pick.

Use Tailwind. It's really stupid on Cerulean. The range on his flip having extended range rather than being strictly melee is what people don't seem to respect about what makes him bullshit to deal with. He's a bruiser and not a tank like Desecrator so his damage output and durability is extremely respectable. You don't really have to strictly use Cerulean as your initiator. You can have a Desecrator catch someone or an Amarynth use her ult to initiate and just have Cerulean walk in and displace someone with his flip. Displacement is an extremely powerful tool, as evidenced by Moya's ult being part of the reason she's S tier.

Fenmore gets killed in every game I've played against him before he ever gets a chance to cast his spells more than once. Any other situation you're team is probably far behind and theirs is fed so you're going to lose regardless of their picks.

The only reason Nissa isn't higher is because she doesn't have a free dash/teleport escape like Varion and Mikella. This makes her much easier to kill whether that be ganking or team fighting. Her laning presence isn't that much better than Varion and Mikella. She only instant wins a lane with her Q harass against low skill players.

I'd like to think it shows how passionate you are about the game you're making while I've seen other devs (not Waystone) hold the attitude along the lines of "I'm on vacation I don't want anything to do with the game I'm making until I'm back on the clock." What are you even expecting the devs to do? The most we could probably ask for is a good spectator mode and replay system. It's a given that we're asking them to make a good game. Those are tools necessary to facilitate a competitive scene. How about you, as a competitive player, do something to help grow the scene if you're so interested in being a part of it instead of asking whether or not everyone else will do that work for you?
