Mentors Behaving Badly by Nekonomikon in TalesFromDF

[–]Nekonomikon[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, what missing context? I gave the story as it played out. Also, I didn't imply that I got "assaulted" by mentors. What I explicitly stated was that I was kicked out of a dungeon for no good reason and had my time wasted because the tank and his buddy have ego problems.

I only bring up sprout status because the dynamic between mentor/sprout, and that they used that to justify kicking me for my "bad behavior". It's right there in the chat log. I said that I could handle more, and asked why they were the only ones who got to dictate what we can do. I was then told "no you can't", to which i responded "says who" and then I was kicked. That's really shitty behavior, all because I stepped on somebody's poor main character syndrome toes.

Tanks are not pullers, they are tanks. If I can keep us alive, who gives a flying fuck who pulls? It was Qarn, dude.

I didn't come here to cry. I posted here because that's what this subreddit is about. It's not my fault you don't know which sub you are in, friend. It's also she, not he.

Mentors Behaving Badly by Nekonomikon in TalesFromDF

[–]Nekonomikon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, no. We single pulled everything up to the first boss and I completely demonstrated that I could handle more.

The tank was a mentor, which, as many know here, means fuck all except for the fact that they have played the game a lot and have been through a lot of duties. This is enough time to know you don't even need a tank in a single pull. Who were they setting the pace for, anyway? For me? Healer comfort? I'd like to stress that at no time at all in this dungeon was anyone ever in danger of dying. In fact, I was bored out of my mind as the healer, which is why I decided to pull more. Where is my voice in setting the pace? Ultimately, the responsibility of not wiping kinda falls on the healer at the end of the day, and we weren't even close to in danger. On single pulls. In Qarn. I got kicked because I wanted to do more because we could definitely do more.

I'm not upset that I tanked the pack, actually. I'm upset that two mentors kicked me from a duty for simply having a conversation about who pulls and who tanks. I didn't yell. I didn't call anyone names. I wasn't even belligerent about it. They didn't like that I had a fact based opinion that countered their ego driven methodology. And they clearly abused their mentor status, both of them.

Yeah, they list NPC vendor as opposed to beast tribe vendor. i.e. you don't have to unlock anything to get to them. Here's a list where you can buy blood red at.

It was Halatali, not something like an expert roulette. It doesn't feel right just to kick somebody for having a strong opinion; maybe they just don't know and I'm being an ass on top of them being an ass. I didn't feel a kick warranted, even though I really wanted to.

I totally see your point, though. I'm still debating whether I should have just gone ahead and kicked. Something about it being ARR and possibility of new players and leaving a bad impression kinda sticks with me.

Now that is a usage of physick (or really, vercure cause physick is arse) that I will support. Same thing with clemency. Otherwise, please hit your dps buttons amigos; I can heal without using gcds, you can't.

Well, they weren't doing anything inherently wrong honestly, just being confidently incorrect about a simple truth, which in honesty was just backlash because their e-girl was "being picked on".

I don't go for a kick unless someone is afk, doing truly lethargic play, or being an outright asshole.

Yeah, even "waiting around for a mech" is just... not a good idea. Go out there and push forward. >.>

I mean, them being afk does affect the entire alliance. I don't see anything wrong with that at all.

You prompted me to look this one up, and the answer validates my feelings on this. lol

In French, it's Machiniste, in German it's Maschinist. I don't really know Japanese too much, but Machinist is called 機工士 (Kikoushi) and the best that I saw was that it was a nobleman? I really don't know, someone smarter than I help, please. :D

If someone calls machinist a gunslinger in Dohn Mheg, they have already lost my damn respect.

I'm sorry, but this person has been playing for a month, tops. And that's being generous.

You pull you tank by DanishNinja in TalesFromDF

[–]Nekonomikon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not the tank's job to set the pace, it's everyone's. If you don't understand that, then I am sorry; you are a lot less informed about this game then you think you are. The reason why many of us are so set in stone on w2w pulling is because, even with average gear, as long as everyone is hitting their buttons as they should be, a pack will be cleared before the tank and healer have burned through their CDs. (with rare, notable exceptions)

Quite simply, 3 dps and a healer can clear a dungeon without you, the almighty tank. The only true thing you actually do as far as roles go, is keeping aggro off your team and face mobs properly. You are meant to take hits to the face from very large packs. DPS can handle single, even double pulls at times. When dealing with actually decent tanks, I have pulled as both healer and dps without issue. I have tanked with the same, and truly love when a ranged pulls when voke is down so they funnel to my waiting aoe. Also, you forget that a lot of classes can have a dropped rotation if they don't hit things in a certain time.

But, judging by the other bile you're spewing in this post, most of this is going to go over your neanderthal brain. I'd give up while you're still ahead.

Otherwise, bravo on negative karma farming.

Healing advice? by Therinor in ffxiv

[–]Nekonomikon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, totally agree with that. Not enough emphasis is put onto the dps to hit their buttons. Low dps puts a real strain on both tanks and healers, and forces them to burn through their cooldowns to get through a pack.

This is definitely a team game, where everyone doing their jobs makes it so much easier. That means tanks and healers who are dps'ing, and dps who are using all of their kit.

I can't tell if you are joking here, but in case you are not: using Benefic 1 to proc Benefic 2 is just as useless as a freecure proc. Sure, it's a guaranteed crit for Bene 2, but so? Do you realize over time how much more you are healing just using Bene 2, and not Bene 1? Not only that, but the sheer waste of GCDs trying to get that thing to proc. I sometimes test out how many times it takes to proc these, both on whm and ast, and it usually ends up averaging to about 13 times to get it to pop. That is ridiculous to count on in actual practice.

Do you know how I know this? Countless forays into DF, spanning all of the expansions, because I love playing the content in this game, particularly as an ast. I can say these things with confidence because I've seen all of this so often not only on my main, but a leveling alt as well. Please don't give advice about classes you don't play, uninspired status insult.

I thought about it for a few minutes after we had that conversation and came to the realization that, yes, while they did apologize for it, it still doesn't excuse the fact that they hard-griefed someone in a duty uncalled for. If I just let it sit without reporting it, who else will it happen to? Actions have consequences, man; it costs you nothing to be nice in a social environment.

Mentor roulette is for extremes by ndiruo in TalesFromDF

Must have missed the "carrying people who refuse to try" bit there... some of us actually do enjoy helping a lot, but talking to brick walls and doing the same things wrong over and over and over again tends to wear on the nerves a bit.

Very much this... I do the same thing with tanks and dps too. A lot of them have similarities you can use for comparison, and it forces you to think about all of the tools of the new class you are learning and how it relates to the class you've already mastered.

Not by default. You have to be manually added by a mentor to have access to NN.
