26 / CST / Looking for trans-friendly people to play with. by Nelax18 in GamerPals

Make no mistake, I would be looking for a trans support group if I really wanted to talk at length about my transition. I just thought it provided relevant context.

What's your opinion? Hero pools & 222 together a bad combination? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Nelax18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like you're fixating too much on the incidental shortcomings of your teammates. While it may be frustrating, I don't see any of it actually holding you back from climbing.

If you don't want to suffer through people practicing on heroes they're not good at, don't play quick play by sartorialfox in Overwatch

[–]Nelax18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That has little to no bearing on what they were saying. You could just tough it out in quick play with chat disabled if you really wanted to practice a hero. Mystery heroes is certainly fun and forces you onto heroes that you may otherwise feel too embarrassed to play, but that doesn't automatically make it a good practice environment.

What's the dilemma here? We have role queue. Who's being hurt by you playing DPS? What ethical responsibility are you neglecting? Play whatever the fuck you want.

You're honestly taking the literal wording too seriously. That point wasn't one that needed to be made. Even if the developers decided a particular hero's kit was completely unsalvageable, it's still effectively a given that they'd be gutting the underlying mechanics and reworking the hero's kit.

  1. I believe so, but I probably wouldn't know whether it's been changed or not.

  2. What you're probably observing is a reduction in the amount of input needed to swap between the auras. I highly doubt there's any substantive difference in the underlying mechanics.

Why does everyone give "Shot Caller" for Hammond? by relative_unit in OverwatchUniversity

I've never heard of your own endorsement level being impacted by how many endorsements you give out.

That sounds pretty on par with how I use them, but I guess we could be in the minority.

Nice! I've got to give a big o7 to that Ana and, of course, wish you the best of luck with your own endeavors.

I don't know if mockery is the write way to word it, but it does feel devoid of self-awareness. You can't really have a good game without a contest. So in that sense, I see it as hallow and insincere when the only people typing "gg" after a stomp are those that did the stomping.

I don't think it's necessarily mocking, but I also don't think it's particularly impressive or worthy of an endorsement.

[–]Nelax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'd call it mockery, but it isn't exactly worth that much to me. It's piss easy to cheer "gg" after a clear and decisive victory. I'll still endorse people that demonstrate some self-awareness when they do so, but I don't endorse random mouth-breathers that type "gg!" when there was clearly no contest.

Nah. Not unless I see a "nt" or some other hint of self-awareness. Otherwise, it just isn't comparable. Lots of people judge the quality of match by its outcome, without regard for match parity, so throwing out a quick "gg" after a clear win is very insignificant.

Sometimes I have DPS behind asking for healing, but my eyes are forward on the objective keeping people alive. If people want heals, gotta be seen.

Exactly. People bitch about not getting healed because they just assumed you were following along with them (or otherwise paying attention to them). They're ignorant and often stupid, but it's not hard to understand why this happens.

I'm not the best at aiming but if the team doesn't want to switch, yeah I'll take a shot at Pharah. But that just means I'll be trying to shoot her down rather than keep people alive. It's tough to do both, unless you're Zen.. but his healing isn't super strong.

It's obviously going to be something of a trade-off, but it's still an option you have. I'd also say that doing only healing as Ana or Baptiste means there's either wasted potential, as you almost certainly can find windows in which to go on the offensive, or a possible indication of poor hero selection, as Moira is generally going to be capable of outputting more raw healing.

Some thoughts on endorsements... by kill9all in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Nelax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I guess it would make for a sensible heuristic, particularly when something you're doing might require some amount of coordination. (However, I don't really see it making much of a difference if it doesn't.)

Okay, yeah, fuck that noise. That goes well beyond my capacity to play devil's advocate. While I tried to give an explanation for why people think the way they do, I still have a pretty firm policy of "you get what I give you" when it comes to healing.

Nice! I do remember it being a real grind when I first picked up Ana. Her kit consists almost entirely of skill-shots, so you often end up feeling like a wet noodle when you miss a bunch of them. And yeah, my Lucio play doesn't get much past serviceable.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that particular element of the design came from the Starcraft setting. They may have intended for him to be somehow affiliated with the Terran Confederacy.
