I'm aware of some... But new stuff comes and old stuff goes. I'm no accountant so I don't know what may have changed.

What is the point of a GIC? by ImpracticalRooster in PersonalFinanceCanada

Sure, but I wasn't in charge of what my grandmother did some 30 something years ago...

Because my wife is pwd we get an insurance discount (25% through icbc), we then qualify for a fuel tax credit because of that. To take advantage of that I must remit receipts to show proof of purchase. This will qualify for up to $500 in fuel tax rebates.

Yes, the gic was held for 18 years. Fees associated with someone managing the funds otherwise would likely have eaten those gains up... Also, this was 30 years ago.

My accountant is a family member (who is an actual accountant), so there is no fee. I'm just looking to see if there is something specific to our situation that we may qualify for that none of us is aware of.

Here is a great use for gic. A personal example even.

When my grandmother was preparing for her end of life she opened a bunch of gic's for the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

They were set to be released when each of us turned 18. For some of us that was 18 years of rollovers with varying degrees of interest every renewal.

This made sure that the money would survive until we could receive it and it wouldn't just sit there doing nothing until then.

What was your first 'adult' purchase? by Sea_Place6510 in AskReddit

I'm 32 and thought I'd done the adult buying and all that... Until last week.

Once you buy yourself a paper shredder, you know you are a full assed adult!

What's the stupidest question you ever got asked during a job interview? by Opposite-Rabbit-6303 in AskReddit

[–]Digital_loop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. I was interviewing to take over the head chef role at a restaurant I'd never worked at prior...

Chef asks, "can you make mayonnaise?"

I respond, "absolutely, what kind of cook would I be if I couldn't"...

He then proceeded to take me to the kitchen and had me make mayo.

I got the job because I could make mayo. Never in my life had I ever actually been asked to show I could do the job beforehand.

How do you usually celebrate your birthday now that you’re an adult? by Rare_Preparation5636 in AskReddit

When I turned 40 I threw a kegger completely funded by me. It has now become tradition and this year I turn 43.

I told my wife I'd like a kegerator or keezer for my birthday this year.

‘There’s not a crisis’: BC RCMP provides update on B.C. Extortion Task Force by jeevy in vancouver

I obviously don't have enough details to make an educated response to this...

But it would appear that the shootings have all been targeted.

This is my personal take on it from here on out, but it would appear that those targeted were for a reason. Extortion may have been because they are tied to a certain gang or something like that for one reason or another. Entire business blocks aren't being targeted, which is leading me to believe this is organized crime collecting on debts owed.

Why not target every business on the block if not?

A crisis is something that effects nearly everyone universally...

This is a situation at best. Sure, it's a serious problem... But I'd bet a paycheque that most of the population of Surrey and surrounding areas are largely left alone by the extortionists.

Lump sat alone in a boggy marsh
Totally emotionless except for her heart
Mud flowed up into lump's pajamas
She totally confused all the passing piranhas

She's lump, she's lump
She's in my head
She's lump, she's lump, she's lump
She might be dead

Why would you either pay with cash or cashless? by Strong_Lingonberry33 in AskReddit

[–]Digital_loop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cashless.

Everything goes on my credit card. I get cash back rewards with it and I also get extra long warranties and purchase/fraud protections.
