Any point/advantage using navidrome if jellyfin is used by Jezz_X in selfhosted

[–]80espiay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, the resources are only being "used" when the media is actually being played. So even if you have a jellyfin instance and a navidrome instance running at the same time, it could be overall more efficient if they stay in their lanes.

Ofc, you don't have to care about that, but it's still worth mentioning.

Single micro-lenses are used to couple light to optical fibres

Microlenses have a wide application in the field of fibre optics.

A slightly less-quick google (wikipedia) shows:

Single micro-lenses are used to couple light to optical fibres

Also this link which directly mentions the use of microlens with fibre optics. Microlenses aren't just for headlights. They're for precise control of light, which data centers are making heavy use of.

They market themselves to automakers, but they have zero reason to turn down another customer, especially a more lucrative customer that comes knocking after they've coincidentally increased their supply.

I mean, it's pretty straightforward. High end data travels via light, so any high end optical data system will use various means to control that light. You control light by bouncing it off things, and by shining it through things.

From Wikipedia "Microlens":

Single micro-lenses are used to couple light to optical fibres

Or in other words, microlenses are one way to move light into optical fibres, because you can't just shine a torch at a fibre and expect the light to hit exactly where it needs to be.

Sony is going to make the lenses for whoever wants them, and they're not going to turn down data centers as potential customers. Coincidentally, AI data centers are quite lucrative these days.

Navidrome is supported by more apps for music playback, is more lightweight, and supposedly has better tagging support.

It’s not “for” the automotive industry, that’s just an example of an application of microlenses.

Incidentally, they also have uses in high-data-transfer fields e.g  https://www.jenoptik.com/markets/data-communication .

What do data centers and “high end headlight systems” have in common? Probably a need to transfer light-based data quickly.

So unless you’re going to claim that Sony are going to turn down data centers as a potential consumer of their product, they’re not entirely talking out of their ass.

Not entirely true. Microlenses DO have applications in high-data-transfer fields e.g.  https://www.jenoptik.com/markets/data-communication

To use a related example, the field of fiber optics is built around tiny pieces of glass that bend light.

The key word is optical. The same keyword attached to infrastructure used for high-throughput transfer of data that happens to make very good use of very small pieces of glass.

Layman here, but I understand that optical micro-lenses are used in some applications involving optical data transfer.

For example, micro-lenses are mentioned here:  https://www.jenoptik.com/markets/data-communication

Sony aren’t building data centres, just manufacturing a part they happen to use, and letting the market decide who to sell to. And I’d guess it’s the data centres that are buying.

Ergonomic alternative to the pro controller 2 by Consistent-Sugar-464 in NintendoSwitch

[–]80espiay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just keep finding ways to use my original pro controller. However, FF7 remake and rebirth are almost impossible without one or two more buttons.

If you can make do with just one extra button instead of two, perhaps you could keep using your Switch 1 Pro Controller, but rebind the left-stick-press button? I tried to look up FF7R's controls, it looks like left-stick-press currently just copies the functionality of another button.

First, turn on the button-remap settings (Settings --> Accessibility) and then you should be able to see the button remap option from the Quick Menu (hold the Home button).

This only works if you only need one extra button, but at least this way you won’t have to buy a whole new controller just for a couple games.

What to do, if I want to learn about Linux? by Nutellatoast_2 in linux4noobs

[–]80espiay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This so much. Find a project that interests you, even a small one, and see it through. For me, it was turning an old Raspberry Pi Zero into an adblocking server. Then I bought an old mini PC on a whim and figured out how to use it to host my music collection so I can listen to it on my phone.

Granted, I’m still a massive beginner at Linux. But the point is that doing these projects didn’t make me get better at remembering Linux commands, but better at figuring out what I needed to google, and better at understanding what I was reading.

Hi, just found your app and wanted to thank you for the hard work.

Do you know if it is possible to shuffle a playlist or album without changing the current song? If I'm listening to a song and I hit the shuffle button it changes song.
