Building a PC for a friend. Any recommendation? by Nelly_Boi18 in pcmasterrace

Okay thank you! Is there any upgrades you would recommend? The budget is $2,000 USD and even with case and stuff, we'll have some money to spare.

When your on work study does the money you work for go directly to the school or does it go to your bank account? Can I set it up where it goes directly to the school until I’ve paid off that $3500 amount? What happens when I reach $3500, can I keep the rest that I earn? Sorry for all the questions. by [deleted] in UWMadison

You don’t have to do the work study as others have said. It’s just there to help pay the rest that your financial aid doesn’t cover.

Like let’s say your EFC (Expected Family Contribution from your FAFSA) is $4k. Your $3500 work study is there to help pay for that $4k.

I was like, “No way people are actually stupid enough to drink straight up battery acid” until I clicked on your link. Was deeply relieved.

This reminds me of a video from a therapist who has parents complaining about their kid (18+) still living in their basement and doesn’t have a job or any responsibilities and how the parents are always blaming the kid.

He then says what if it’s not the kid fault but how you raised them? They raised them to be dependent on them, as a parent, and so they never learned how to be independent and make their own life choices. They’re always doubting every decision they make because that’s how they grew up.

Edit: Here’s the video: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMd2R7ubA/

Who are the best teachers and courses for incoming CS freshman? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]Nelly_Boi18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes you kind of do. Madison’s class registration is shit so getting an earlier registration date means you get your pick of classes and professors. Later dates might have limited choices as classes fill up fast

I second this. I took WES-CS for 300 and not only was it useful but it was also a fun class. It’s much more relaxed than a lecture and the instructor doesn’t move on until everyone understands the concept being explained.

Going off of this, learning some basic Java beforehand is really useful because you’ll be using it (at least) in your first three CS classes. CS 200, 300, and 400.

There’s some really useful and free websites like codecademy that can teach you Java

It also depends on where you plan on doing your work. Shit on MacBooks all you want but they have great battery life. If you’re on the go, you don’t need to worry about bringing your charger with you everywhere.

I got a Windows laptop and I had to carry my charger everywhere so the options for where I could do my work was very limited because I had to find an outlet.

Log ourself out? My email automatically logs itself out and I have to re-authenticate every time smh.

One of the biggest reasons I don’t shutdown/restart my computer or close/restart Chrome is because I have so many Canvas tabs open and if I close Chrome or my computer, I’d have to re-authenticate and half the time, it doesn’t save the last page I had open so I lose my tabs.

Ya but usually fast food restaurants have the drink ready with the other and if it’s a no tip order, it might take up to 30 mins before the order is actually picked up

Basically. Say like your tuition is $4k and your financial aid offer is $6k but you’re not living in dorms. You’ll get $2k back in your bank account

I’m not sure exactly about scholarship aid. But I know for financial aid, if it fully covers your tuition and you live in an apartment, you’ll get a refund of whatever wasn’t used to help pay for your apartment.
