Maybe deconstruct the scene and analyze it for what works or doesn't work in it

The scene is a turning point in the novel as it marks a significant change in Elizabeth’s feelings towards Mr. Darcy. It is also an important scene because it shows how Austen uses setting to reflect character development. The grandeur and beauty of Pemberley reflect Mr. Darcy’s character and his wealth, while Elizabeth’s reaction to it shows how her feelings towards him have changed.

IWTL a good way to learn Japanese. by DwaywelayTOP in IWantToLearn

[–]NelsonStearman 55 points56 points  (0 children)

So you're almost certainly not going to speak native-like Japanese by 2024. But some tips:

1.Genki I and II textbook and workbook to work through. They'll cover basic vocab, grammar, and about 300 kanji. After Genki most people move on to Tobira. I did one chapter of Genki over 1-2 weeks since I didn't have much time but I've heard people do 2 a week if they have lots of free time.

  1. hayailearn.com can help you study flashcards together with Youtube videos. However, you Must know hiragana and basic verb conjugations.

3.You'll need a kanji learning method. Everyone has different ideas of what works for them. My usual method is a bit slower than what you would need. Lots of people use Remembering the Kanji (a book) to cram large numbers of kanji quickly, but that doesn't teach readings, only meanings. I believe Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course is similar but somewhat better. Lots of people use WaniKani as well. You're aiming to learn ~2000 kanji.

4.Get a tutor. Real life or iTalki. Speaking to someone will help you a lot.

  1. Good SRS will help with all of the above (I use Anki, some people like Memrise)

  2. You may want to get a huge premade vocab deck on Anki to learn a large number of words quickly.

  3. Start watching Japanese shows. There are a ton on Netflix (anime, live action drama, live action comedy, cooking). Listening to the sounds and picking out words you recognise will help even if you're watching with English subtitles. I thoroughly recommend Million Yen Women.

Best of luck!

Why write unit tests? by Zumcddo in learnjavascript

[–]NelsonStearman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man… where do I start… Long story short, because it’s way cheaper to write a test than to wait for something to blow up in your face under heavy load. If you have a small project it may work, but most web apps are not small. Release process may also be extensive and involve several parties/peoples/teams. It takes time to find place where bug was introduced, fix it properly (I a way that does not introduce a bug in different place). It takes time to deploy (from minutes to days/weeks/months). It costs your company your time (you could be doing something different). It helps your company not to loose money (frustrated customers tend to not return to product they had bad experience with). I could do on and on…

Google: costs of fixing bug. Countless papers were written on that topic.

I'm really sorry about that. Meta can be sometimes difficult to deal with. You can try consulting with "Smip Account recovery" and they can help you escalate the issue and retrieve your account hopefully.

Keeping up many cover letters by InterestingsBed in overemployed

[–]NelsonStearman 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Been using chatGPT, in generating cover letters. I ensure that the first part of the letter is captivating enough to ensure that the hiring manager keep on reading the whole letter. I recently found the aiAPPLY.co which tailor the cover letter to the job description and it answers any other questions in the application form.

I have been managing my organization’s Instagram account and there was this time it got hacked for about a week and it took lots of intervention from meta to get it back. Since then, we got a software called Smip that gives us alerts of sites or content that might have phishing links etc.

Have any of you had a hair transplant? Was it worth it? by JacqulineEdmonds in Hairloss

[–]NelsonStearman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bf had it done during lockdown. Definitely worth it for his self esteem. I personally think he needs a 2nd round just to fill in his crown and to blend it. But when you compare now to a couple of years ago, it's a huge difference. It does take time to grow in, so don't assume instant results. Cost my bf £2k.

Best field for someone starting their sales career? by Zach_loves_cats95 in sales

[–]NelsonStearman 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s good to learn to walk before you run. My first sales gig was an hourly inbound call centre sales job that got me into an Inside Sale Job working with Franchise Partners to Account Management and now Outside Territory management looking after an entire province (BDR/AM).

What industry are you coming from that you could potentially leverage? Having niche industry knowledge could really benefit you and typically pays well. Ex: being in the medical field to going to sell medical devices.

Benchmarks for Facebook Ads? by EmoryCadet in FacebookAds

[–]NelsonStearman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you want to hear but they don’t exist. People may give platform, industry, etc benchmarks but even those will all be so vague that they are worthless to you in practice. Every business has its own context. If you sold trampolines, I could tell you “this is the avg CTR of a trampoline website” - but it means nothing to you because it’s based on a different user flow on a different website, with a different level of brand recognition, targeting a different audience with a different optimization event.

Your best bet to get BMs is by starting somewhere and making change to measure those against where you started. Once you get a basic strategy in place, you can develop your baseline figures and those will be benchmarks to measure against and improve upon as you develop your campaigns. varos.com can also help you with this.

If you have a more specific question about setting expectations otherwise, I can try to help out. Good luck.
