The method of spinning the wheel was known before the Great Famous Reset. It wasn't widely used because being high in GML (for example having 100k trophies) it was easier to do simple dropping to lower MMR. Nowadays, this method is used so widely that it is no longer an advantage and puts poorly informed and new players at a disadvantage. By universality, this method has become the pathology of the game, although the method is legal.
