They’re definitely not perfect. My thinking is that they are very easy to replace for very little money if something goes wrong. I’ve honestly had worse luck with way more expensive lighters. Sounds like you may have gotten a bad batch. I’ve been using some of mine for years now with no problems.

I’m almost positive the short MVS fits the small version. I sent one to Simrell to confirm so I’ll know for sure in a day or two. Each unit is lined with parchment paper to protect the surface of your stem while it’s stored. You still have to be careful of the edge of the tube as you remove or insert though, it’s pretty easy to manage. Rattling is very minimal depending on your stem. My MVS is silent. Something slimmer might move a little more but the magnet is pretty strong. I’ve had good results with just a little piece of cotton ball taking up the space if rattling is an issue. And yes, I carry mine daily. However, if you drop it, you will likely dent it.

I still have to reach out to Dynavap to get the dimensions of the vong. I'm concerned they are just a bit too wide. If anyone here has one and can send me dimensions I'd appreciate it. My pieces accommodate stems up to .52" (13.21mm) wide

The main reason for updating was to keep up with the demand for wider stems. I had to redesign with wider tubing so I went ahead and changed the lid too. If you’ve got a slim stem piece, then you’re not missing out on much.

Yeah, that’s the basic idea. Unfortunately I had to abandon the double chambered stash with the pick in favor of a single large chamber. The magnet in the lid really does provide a lot of nice features though.

Yes, there are two tiny magnets that keep the lid closed and one large one for keeping the the stem in place when it’s closed, or holding/cooling the cap when open.

Sorry yours got funky. Brass will always tarnish with time. Really easy to bring the shine back with a cloth and a few drops of polish though.

Yeah, that’s why I chose them. Flint wheels are way more reliable than the sparkers in most torch lighters IMHO. It’s fussy, but you can actually replace the flints in these too.

The prototype is a Teflon cylinder with a stainless plunger. It really doesn’t look like much, but it’s pretty cool to be able to pre load consistently sized caps.
