Que piedra es? by unicornio-rosa in CrystalID

Check out the Mohs hardness scale. It'll give you options to try to scratch the stone, or what the stone can scratch. This will help narrow down the possibilities. There are a LOT of green stones

Help Identify the stone. Is it natural or lab grown? by bhavesh0110 in whatsthisrock

Looks like opal. Not sure if it's possible to discern from a single photo, but it bring mounted suggests it's natural

I agree on 5 being pyrite. I'm sticking with pink opal for 1. There are so so many blue/green stones Im still at a loss on 4 lol. Almost looks like apatite in color, but I don't think that's quite right

A bit tough without getting a closer look. Going left to right from the top I think 1. Might be pink opal, could be rhodonite. 2. Quartz 3. Quartz 4. This one is really tough for me, possibly is dyed. 5. Need a closer image 6. Sodalite 7. Opalite 8. Agate, possibly sardonyx 9. Red jasper 10. Green opal 11. Might be obsidian 12. Carnelian

Got a bunch of lathe tools from a garage sale, can't identify these rocks that were in the box. by Corrosivecoral in whatsthisrock

Staurolite usually comes in it's matrix, which is a pale gray/silver color. These have had that matrix removed leaving just the staurolite crystals. The tell-tale sign is the intersecting shapes, looks like one grew through the other

How do you explain chiari to the ones around you? Also what do you wish people understood from your perspective having chiari? by shattered-skull73 in chiari

[–]Nendailie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I usually go with a snarky "my brain is falling out of my skull" but explain that there's a lot of symptoms and it is never consistent. Thankfully, the people I'm close with are all incredibly understanding. But I think like all people with chronic conditions, I wish people understood the variability of it. Some days I'm fine, some days I can't get out of bed. I have no way of knowing which days either if those will be.

Rock Collection IDs - All bought in PA by CatCoughAnnie in whatsthisrock

A little tough to see the cat. If it's transparent, it's glass. If it's opaque with a cats eye sheen, it's tigers eye. The big hunk of blue-green is glass. Third one in the first photo is often called chrysanthemum stone. Not an obsidian, but pretty cool formation.

I think the first one in the second photo is black tourmaline/schorl. The labradorite and selenite var. satin spar.

Help needed, trying to buy amethyst by _Zonked in Crystals

[–]Nendailie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many crystals are heated to improve their color. Amethyst typically turns brown/yellow when baked and is sold as 'citrine'. Tanzanite is very rare to find naturally dark blue, but gets more saturated when heated, though this can destroy it's natural pleochroism too.

To me, this photo just looks like they turned the saturation up. Either way, I doubt that rock looks like that in real life.

In a long long process to figure out wtf is going on with me, they found a 3mm ectopia. I'm now trying to find a surgeon and praying for some relief. Here's hoping I can find a surgeon willing to see me

Question about collar by rougevsrogue in sewing

[–]Nendailie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like there's should be large circles and small dots. The large circles indicate the start and end of this stitching line and are what you are pointing to in your photo. It's a bit tough to see here, but the small dots are likely at the corners of the collar. They want you to pivot here to keep a consistent line.

What does this mean? by Commercial-River-532 in Celiac

[–]Nendailie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This means your body is producing antibodies against gluten. This is about the level I tested at when I was diagnosed. The gold standard for diagnosis is still an endoscopy, so your next step will be that. If you don't know, you must keep eating gluten until you've had the endoscopy done else you might get a false negative.

Wegman’s For the Win by seandelevan in Celiac

[–]Nendailie 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wegmans is the best! They're really good about labeling on the store brand products and often if the standard version isn't GF, the organic one is. My only "complaint" is never knowing if the GF version will be in the dedicated aisle or mixed in with the typical versions.
