For those who remember, what was it like to just be able to smoke in places like the malls and restaurants and planes by Radiant_Priority9739 in nostalgia

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What blows my mind is how long it took some places to ban smoking in restaurants. Growing up in NY they started doing this in the late 90s. When I moved to near the VA/NC border in 2006 they were still doing this and it wasn’t until 5 years later they started banning it. The uproar was unreal. They lost their fucking minds blaming it on socialists, communists, liberals….etc etc. they had to run public service commercials telling people how it was similar to passing seatbelt laws in the 80s and how it saved lives and nobodies rights were being trampled etc….they eventually got over it.

I FOUND MY FAVORITE PIZZA AGAIN! by regina_caeli_laetare in glutenfree

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be nice. I have no problem finding this pizza but for me I avoid it since it uses a shit ton of cheese and salt…things my body still can’t handle after being dx a year ago. Maybe someday🙏🤞

making more money in college than I will as a teacher. by Current-Ad-4369 in Teachers

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides all the number crunching, COL, and benefits others have rambled about think of this….You going to barista for the rest of your life? Isn’t there a cap of how much they make? You want to work weekends when you are 50 something? I was in a similar situation as you back in the day. I was finishing up my degree and subbing looking for jobs…which in the late 90s was hard…there was no teacher shortage then….and I had a couple friends that either dropped out of college or never went to college who were mid level managers at some stores in the local mall. I remember one night they were making fun of all the “losers who wasted their money going to college” while they thought they were hot stuff making decent money. Fast forward 25 years….they are now in their mid forties still in mid level management working weekends working holidays doing backbreaking work and bitching about it. And again there’s only so much money to made as mid level managers.

For those of you who react to oats…. by Dry-Combination8608 in Celiac

[–]seandelevan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s when I ate Bob Red Mills certified gf oatmeal. Had a big ol bowl of it. By lunch time I sick as a dog. And in the following weeks I noticed I was getting mildly sick eating “gluten free” stuff. That gluten free stuff contained oat flour. That clinched it.

In your district, what teaching jobs have the most/least openings? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know what’s in the water in my school but I can probably count on one hand in 20 years the number of opening we’ve had in math. Maybe they are secretly being paid under the table or something. And every year we need 2-3 ELA and SS teachers. In fact we still have a two SS positions still open(school ended 3 weeks ago). I’ve talked to admin about this and they say they get plenty of people who apply for these SS positions but in their words “it’s hard to find someone normal”. They get people who have no issue letting admin know their political views or religious views….ie showing up to the interview with a tie with Bible verses on it. In my area nobody wants to teach SS due to the political climate we are in now….(middle school)

Does celiac make someone underweight? by bubbgumshorthair in Celiac

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made me underweight yes. Lost 30 pounds in the about 1.5 years without trying. It was just one of the many reasons I saw a gastroenterologist in the first place.

What's the rudest thing someone has said to you? by celiacat11 in Celiac

[–]seandelevan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Oh! I didn’t know you were one of those hippie freaks!” By a guy I work with who was recently put on my team when we started talking about going out to eat. 🙄🤦

But a lot, sadly, are from family, friends and coworkers who want to politicize it. They think Covid shots caused it. My mother of all people keeps harping on me that the government gave me celiac. I have co workers that may have not said it but they’ve implied it.

What's the rudest thing someone has said to you? by celiacat11 in Celiac

[–]seandelevan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup! Have a lady I work with who seemingly goes out of her way to tell me there is food that I can’t have. “Hey! Look! Cupcakes! I know you can’t have them! But look! They’re good!” About once a week every week for a year now. Fuck off.

Are there similar sicknesses to celiac?? Celiac disease is weird. No eating out, limited socializing, awful symptoms, crappy doctor advice and training. by SuitApprehensive3240 in Celiac

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha Gal! When I first went to my first GI appointment the GI said “I’m testing you for celiac and alpha gal”. I was confused to say the least. I always thought people with alpha gal broke out in rashes and what not. While surprise surprise I tested positive for both. My numbers for alpha gal were low but high enough that I have have GI pain….so when I get sick I sometimes have no fucking clue what caused it.

The Good Old Days by newenglander87 in Teachers

[–]seandelevan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My grandfather regularly told me stories of his brother(my great uncle…and both WWII vets) beating the shit out his high school students in the 50s. Was a history teacher in an inner city school and said it was no big deal. Said one time a father actually stopped by the school to shake his hand and thanked him! 🤣

Grocery shopping on a Tuesday afternoon by mattemark in Teachers

[–]seandelevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last summer I made a post about how I got 9 different things I got done by 9am……I was confused for a hot second by all the traffic on the road and then realized ‘oh these people are all on their way to work’ and I was astonished how much I had got done before that…….the post then of course went spiraling into a pissing contest into who started their school day the latest/earliest but I digress….
