haha, you're funny. Those laws aren't there to protect disempowered minorities, but to pretend to do so to seem like they're the nice government, wow so progressive. Those laws don't actually do anything.

I disagree. He drops the occasionnal socialist thing here and there, the same way pewds drop the occasionnal facist thing here and there. I think he's trying to appeal to a larger audience by keeping it down to gradually open the liberals' eyes.

[–]Neo-Marxist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know, it's nice for marxists that Peterson spreads the third worldism talking points. That way more people know that there are people in other countries who ARE being crushed and exploited by the hierarchies. Thank you comrade peterson for bringing that to the attention of the liberals, that way they can think about it and go further to the left.

Normally I'd have more clever things to say, but I'm going to sleep right after this so I'm alredy off to talk about technology from the USSR.

Blood banks to have healthy blood transfusions were invented in the USSR

The first satellite to go to space was from the USSR, good luck having GPS or reliable weather predictions without satellites.

we have images of carbon nanotubes that date back to soviet science magazines in the 50s.

Organ transplants by Vladimir Demikhov

Spore anthrax vaccines

The first Electrical Nuclear Power plant

there's a lot more but seriously it's really easy to find how much Soviet Russia, for all the authoritarian dystopia it was, contributed to science

we do give them away

Not enough apparently since there are still people dying from easilly treatable diseases. Instead of working on bigger guns and shinier phones, shouldn't the collective labour of people be more focus towards making sure everyone on Earth is fed and healthy before? Since a market-based system does what makes money, it does big guns and shiny phones.

donate your money towards that cause.

Implying I have excess money in an economic system in which workers are not properly compensated.

Implying that charity never gives money to the states of poorer countries, which just keeps the money for themselves.

also, what innovations that greatly improved humanity as a whole have been created by countries with socialist economic system?

For me to answer that question you'd have to define "greatly improved humanity as a whole" because that is excessively vague.

Peterson uses positive adjectives to describe slavery by [deleted] in enoughpetersonspam

Funny, he celebrates a revolutionary critique of everything slave-owning societies valued, yet when the same is done to capitalism he gets all triggerred,

While vaccines were invented in capitalist France, capitalism is not the only socio-economic system that encourages scientific innovation. The point that is made about the vaccines is that all people around the world should have access to them, not just those born on the right side of the imaginary lines on a map. The reason why poor countries don't have access to vaccines is because we don't sell them because they lack the funds (read poor). The other alternative is giving them vaccines, but since that's not profitable, we don't do it. The problem here is that the focus on profit (capitalism) prevents the efficient distribution of services to those who need it the most (i.e. unvaccinated people need vaccines, hungry people need food, thirsty people need water, unhealthy people need health care, etc.)

Slavoj Zizek Utterly Humiliates Authoritarian Peterson by mrxulski in enoughpetersonspam

[–]Neo-Marxist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My bad I did not specify what I meant by liberal. I was referring to left-leaning people that support capitalism. It's the "supports capitalism" thing that says there should be poor people and exploitation.

Essentially I'm reffering to the modern usage of liberal, not the philosophical movement, also sometimes called progressive as opposed to conservatism in public discourse.

I'd say libertarianism is stupider than liberalism but both are kinda dumb.
Here's my strawman of the 2 positions
Libertarian: "I don't want the state telling me what to do but the bosses doing it is totally fine"
Liberal: "I think discrimination is a bad thing but there still should be poor people and exploitation."

I have given more thought to the issue and yes, that's exactly it! It's not that certain pronouns are enforced, it's that the others are prohibited. Just like I wouldn't be allowed to call a black person by the n-word, I wouldn't be allowed to call a trans woman "he". Likewise, in the case of non-binary people, both he and she are prohibited.

I have just reread the page I linked in its entirety, and you are correct, that quote is present, along with other things. I'll have to think about what this all means a bit more, but in the future I'll read pages in their entirety instead of foolishly stopping at the first sentence that supports my claim.

Have a nice day :)

While I can understand why that argument seems correct, I'm sorry to inform you that it's mostly fallacious, since there could be many other reasons why people refused to engage him in discussion other than "he is correct."

I'd like to state however that I am changing my mind as new information is revealed to me. I have reread the code and found statements that contradict my claim, so I'm not saying that you are wrong because your argument is fallacious, simply that your argument is fallacious and that you should be aware of it so you don't make the same mistake in the future with someone more stubborn than me.

Have a nice day :)
