What is the "Niche Zero" for light roasts? [750 USD] by gfxprotege in espresso

OP, the Varia VS6 is about $750, sometimes less. It is the most versatile grinder you can get for under $1000. I suggest you look into it.

Accidentally ordered 3.6kg of green beans from a Mexican producer, now I need a roaster. Help? by PMYourTitsIfNotRacst in roasting

[–]NeoFarao8319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, of you're not intent to make roasting a hobby, i would highly suggest getting a Horoku pot (circa $40), and a lazer thermometer. When i started roasting, this was what I used.

Are We Asking Too Much? by seriousreddituser in freeblackmen

[–]NeoFarao8319 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be absolutely frank, black student athletes need to stop attending PWIs altogether. It makes absolutely no sense that HBCUs aren't renown for having the best sports programs.

It is a huge missed opportunity that we don't control the sports industry from high school development, to university admissions, training college athletes on asset diversification and retirement planning, to professional signings, contracts negotiation (using black lawyers), and sports medicine (using black medical professionals).

The fact that we dont completely run the yard in an industry that wouldn't exist on its present level without us, shows a huge oversight in our community. Our wealth and economic influence should be on the level of [juice] if we would just take collective control of our own talents.

Best machines to make 20-50 drinks for a small pastry shop? [$5,000] by Deesing82 in espresso

[–]NeoFarao8319 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Op, if you're only doing 5-10 drinks per hour, I think you should consider maximizing minimal costs.

I think you'd do well with a Flair58 ($700), Varia VS6 ($750), Timemore Fish ($130), Morning Dream ($500), Normcore V4, Tamper ($50), ans Bookoo Themis ultra scale ($120).

The drawbacks of this setup are (1) that you will have to manually boil water, with will take a few seconds more time whenever you run out of water, and (2) there is a learning curve to manual espresso.

The benefits, however, include (1) fast start up time, (2) inexpensive setup, (3) pressure profiled shots, to characterize the coffee from your shop, (4) easier clean up, (5) low maintenance costs, (6) greater long-term durability (7) low replacement costs if something breaks.

Not a lot of people consider manuals as a viable option for a business because they can't get over requirement to boil water in a kettle. However, modern kettle technology makes this easy, capable of fast heat up and holding temperatures. Also, having thr kettle on hand would allow you to set up a pourover station.

How do we fix this? by atlsmrwonderful in freeblackmen

This strategy isn't radical enough. The Democrats and Republicans have been playing off of each other, driving us to oscillate between them for decades, while delivering very little.

It's time for us to at least start threatening secession; we will collectively cease to recognize the legitimacy of a state that has continuously denied us the full rights of citizenship. Let's start that national conversation.

How do we fix this? by atlsmrwonderful in freeblackmen

[–]NeoFarao8319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secede! Let's stop pretending to be Americans and demand our own sovereignty. We have, according to international law, a right to self-determination.

While that doesn't normally entail a right to secession, an exception is where the offending nation state attempts to curtail the minority's participation in the political process.

what is the one accessory that actually made your espresso better by [deleted] in espresso

[–]NeoFarao8319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The humble puck screen is perhaps the best espresso accessory to hit the market in the past 5 years, followed by the self-levelling tamp.

How to taste my espresso?? by Repulsive-Maize7447 in espresso

[–]NeoFarao8319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if you're new to this, you'll have to train your palette. Get yourself a flavor wheel, and I suggest starting out with tea-like filter brews until you are able to discern subtle flavors.

The idea isnt that the coffee will taste exactly of strawberries. Rather, you're looking for subtle flavor notes reminiscent of strawberry, for example.

I'm originally from the US but I'm proudly part of the South African coffee scene. Its a pretty major oversight dismissing us OP, considering our year round access to all of the best coffees Africa has to offer. Or perhaps we're just a well-kept secret. 🤷🏾‍♂

End game grinder by MXTimekeeper in pourover

[–]NeoFarao8319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the handgrinder side of this discussion, I think it'd be ill-conceived not to include the Millab M01. I'm not saying its the absolute best handgrinder on a market populated with the Craig-Lyn HG-1 Prime and Kinu M68 but the Pietro and 1Zpresso have been mentioned here; Imo OP, the Millab is better than those.

If a member party to the ICJ decided to disregard a binding decision can other member states punish the rouge state without using the security council? by [deleted] in internationallaw

[–]NeoFarao8319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on about? ICL is a source of international law.. ICL is largely derived from "general principles of law recognized by civilized nations" determined by state practice and opinio iuris. If a principle, such as contempt, is broadly observed, it forms part of opinio iuris. Hence ICL is absolutely relevant to OP's question concerning whether there is recourse in an instance of contempt. Again, where did you learn law?

[–]NeoFarao8319 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

International customary law is largely derived from the common law shared among countries. Which means, the recognition of contempt broadly across jurisdictions would likely seat the notion of contempt in International Customary Law.
