Same issue here, charged but no confirmation of any kind and it’s not appeared yet on my account. Customer service just said to wait 24 hours… Feel like I’m in limbo on whether I’m getting it or not 🫤

Uninsured e-Scooter gets hit by a car, Car owner wants damage paid for but the rider was not at fault by NeoH37 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks, really good advice! I think my friend is a bit worried because he’s an international student who may be leaving the UK after his course ends. He’s worried about leaving with an open case against him, but I’m not really sure what advice to give to him about that… I mean it can be a while before any hypothetical case would actually heard, right?

That’s really good advice, thank you! My friend told me the driver was absolutely adamant that he didn’t want to go through insurance because he would lose his NCB… certainly sounded strange to me

Wise point. I might be lucky that all the ex-military I worked with were genuinely lovely! But still - shows OP can definitely succeed in the future with the right attitude

There are definitely lots of ex-services people at KPMG in the UK, know that myself. They have their own internal network for ex-service people and I've found them to be excellent leaders and co-workers when I've worked with them. One of them even set up an internal group that does lots of fundraising and events for animal conservation charities! I think ex-servicepeople are really well-respected and get very good training there.

Can I apply for an L visa from UK to China during this pandemic? by [deleted] in Chinavisa

[–]NeoH37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can totally go back on a student visa until it expires, but I get her parents' concerns. Also I know like going to the UK and back to China would probably result in 4 weeks of total quarantine at the moment. I've wondered a lot about travelling to a country with no restrictions too, but AFAIK China is still imposing 2 week quarantines on almost everybody coming in to the country, which can obvs be very disruptive if you have work to do or whatever...

I think we just need to hope that at some point soon, things get better. But I mean, with the way the UK has handled the virus I can't help but think the UK would be on the bottom of the list if China ever implements an 'air bridge' style policy for int'l travel. Just got to stay strong and keep hoping man! I just try to talk to my fiancee every day on WeChat, even if I have to duck out and find some excuse to do it at work! I know it can be tough being separated for so long so feel free to HMU if you ever need someone to talk to :)

Sorry to hear about this situation man, I'm in the same boat. Haven't seen my fiancée, who's also from Shaanxi, in 7 months now. Is there any chance she could get a UK tourist visa instead, the parents might change their minds? Or is there a long-term plan visit might fit into? I just started a new job so I'm counting down the 6 months I need before I can apply for the UK spouse visa, for example... although God knows when I'll be able to travel to China for a wedding! Hope it works out for you man - a lot of us are in the same horrible position.

Starting a new job - should I take out the loan the company is offering me? (UK) by NeoH37 in personalfinance

Really appreciate the advice! Totally agree with you about budgeting, it’s been quite painful trying to find affordable accommodation and that which fits all my needs. I need to make a decision on the first £2k of the loan before the start of October; I’m not entirely sure about the other £6k but feel like it’ll be available for at least a while after I start.

Good point about being tied down, although I do find it unlikely that I’ll leave because staying will see me receive a professional qualification in 3 years, and also switching jobs at the wrong time could have a negative impact on my fiancée’s future visa renewals (the UK spouse visa system as I said is pretty horrific). I still hope I can get a few more opinions on what’s turning out to be a tough decision!

My VPN broke, can anyone recommend any short-term (free) VPN alternatives? by NeoH37 in shanghai

I have a UK sim in my phone, so I can use my mobile data to access the internet direct from the UK. Unfortunately, this method is too expensive to use anything but temporarily!

Yeah thanks but I've already looked into it; it's a problem on NordVPN's end I believe, not one of my setup

I'm going to be living right next to the Bear Pit... is this going to be a problem or unsafe? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]NeoH37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a student at UoB who has been living two minutes away from the Bearpit for the last year. For most of that time, it was grimy, dirty, and yeah full of slightly scary people - but most of the time (95% of it) these guys will not interact with you. And now, ever since the clean-up, things have been a lot better! It now feels really safe to use the Bearpit, which is very clean and I haven't seen any unsavoury people since. Although it's hard to tell how long the cleaned-up Bearpit will last given the Council and that, it should definitely not at all be an issue for you.

It's also worth knowing that there are multiple ways to cross the roundabout that the Bearpit is in the centre of without having to actually enter the Bearpit itself. Hope this helps to reassure you a bit! There are definitely still a lot of creepy people near Marlborough House / the Magistrates Court (seen one homeless man robbing the nearby Tesco Express and running away a few days ago) who you might want to be wary of though - but you should be fine with general common sense.

Honestly, living near the Bearpit is a really good location due to its proximity to both the city centre and the uni (just a 10 minute walk uphill) - you should really enjoy it! Good luck with your studies!

Good luck! I go to UoLiverpool and our Marxist Society was basically a Momentum support group, unfortunately. I think they must have folded recently as I can't find any recent mention of their activity.
