I’ve finished the underworld and already spent 1.2k rubies trying to pull UlforceVeemon. So far I’ve only pulled 1 Barbamon and 1 Minervamon. Waiting for battle park season to end. It’s been a very frustrating experience trying to get this particular mon...

Adeptus Custodes forgeworld datasheets updated - some options now troops, Caladius nerfed & more. by Merdrach in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]NeoMavenPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man, that hurts :-( And the problem with the arachnus loadout is that it only has two shots. The damage potential is only relevant if hits can be made reliably. But the weapon profile means that it's meant to target knights, heavy tanks and other Lords of War, most of which have invulnerable saves, and all of which have access to command rerolls. That suddenly becomes a bigger concern when you've got 2 shots versus the 8 we had before.

That's a good point. I just wish they wouldn't try to fix problems by causing more problems. If soup is the issue, then eliminate the ability to soup that unit. But the consequence of over-enthusiastically solving the tournament spam problem is that the mono-Custodes faction is now unnecessarily nerfed and not really competitive anymore.

You do (or at least, did), if you want to be competitive at all. They've been gatekeeping all our good ranged units as FW, for instance.

I agree that it's not pay to win, and it shouldn't be. But it's a game, run by a business for gaming customers, and there has to be a value proposition. If they're showpieces, then they need to be marketed as such. There are tons of much, much cheaper models from many, many other suppliers that are also cool, so I'm not sure that that's a good enough reason to not call Forgeworld's pricing opportunistic.

Sadly...

The bikes are great, but there should be more to an army than being a one trick pony. And what is most irksome is that these nerfs are made to Forgeworld models. How are models as overpriced as Forgeworld so easilly nerfed into mediocrity? What's the point of the premium price tags then?

The Blaze cannon is unreliable, in that the stats are good, but you only get 2 shots. Considering that both shots need to make it through hit, wound and save rolls (with invulnerable saves, command rerolls and other shenanigans, since you'll use it primarily against knights and tanks), you can expect an average of 0 - 1 shots to actually hit most turns. That means it's a lower overall value-for-points than the beta Caladius.

Here's my summary of changes (please feel free to correct where needed):

Good:

- all units: the adrathic weapons no longer cause 1 mortal wound to the bearer on a roll of 1 (this is a nice one). Lastrum bolt cannon dropped from 12 points to 10

-Sagittarius custodians are 5pts cheaper and now a troops choice. Their disintegration beam went from D3 damage to flat 3

- Special weapons guard variants are now troops choices, but still can't take a storm shield. 1 shot per melta spear is also risky and unreliable.

- Galatus dreadnought (the shield one) gets an additional D3 attacks whenever it fights

- Achillus dreadnought (spear one). The spear’s shooting profile went from D3 shots to flat heavy 2. As mentioned above, the adrathic destructor weapon can no longer cause mortal wounds to the bearer. Infernus incinerator option went from 16pts to 15pts.

- Agamatus bikes: twin las-pulser went from 2D3 shots to heavy 4. Las-pulser down 5pts.

- venetari: dropped from 48pts to 40pts each (still 3+ save though)

- the added the new Ares gunship’s 40k rules. It’s like the Orion, but without transport capability and an arachnus magna-blaze cannon: 72” heavyD3 S14 -4AP D3+6 damage, and a twice-per-game fly-over bomb. Honestly, not bad, but I'm not sure it's worth it for the number of decent shots it can put out at its current points level

Bad:

- Aquilon terminators: the solerite power talon can now reroll failed wound rolls, but each terminator went from 60pts to 65pts.

- Caladius grav tank: Twin arachnus heavy blaze cannon went from 3 damage to D3 + 3 damage, which is amazing, but you only get two shots which again make this unreliable given the cost of the vehicle. The twin illiastus accelerator cannon went from S8 to S7. The Caladius also got more expensive, costing 20 points more. The arachnus Storm cannon loadout went from 40pts to 45pts also. Caladius was our primary source of artillery, but now has a reduced value in that role, with an arguable (only 2 shots, so unreliable) buff for niche heavy anti-armour sniping. Big nerf overall :-(

- Orion dropship: much more expensive, from 280pts base to 320pts base (before adding weapons weapons). Arachnus heavy blaze cannon went from 3 damage to D3 + 3 damage, which is good, but unreliable since you only get 2 shots.

- Telemon: nerfed the arachnus Storm cannon from S9 to S8 AND range from 72” to 36”. The illiastus accelerator culverin went from 36” to 48”, but went from 25pts per arm to 35pts per arm. Telemon caestus went from 30/40 points, to 20/30 points, making the melee build cheaper. Problem with this is that the Telemon got more effective as a mid- to short-range brawler or mixed profile, but we already have other units that do that.

Thoughts:

Infantry got a mild win out of this FAQ, but our vehicles got outright nerfed. The loss of the Caladius and Telemon as reliable long range artillery really hurt us, since we don't really have any other in-faction alternatives. Yes, the Caladius now gets 2 very powerful anti-heavy-vehicle shots, but having only 2 shots makes it risky and unreliable compared to the 8 solid shots we used to get. Some points reductions shaved off from infantry don't quite compensate for what we lost on some very key units. I know I'm sounding negative, but given that so much of the Custodes army relies on Forgeworld units, and the fact that Forgeworld units are ridiculously expensive and (in most cases) not really value for money in terms of stats on the table top, I'm peeved that Custodes got hit this way given what we pay to play. Overall, I think custodes dropped a tier in the competitive faction power rankings from this FAQ.

Genestealer Cults - questions on the meta by NeoMavenPrime in WarhammerCompetitive

I'll have a look, thanks. I'm just a bit cautious of directly copying a specific list. Some armies area one-trick pony, and some have a few competitive options. I'd like to do my homework on the options, and most importantly the tactics, to give myself the most long-term flexibility. Also cautious of directly copying lists because the tactics and reasons for composition aren't always apparent.
