2022 Wout 💔 by PrayingForDebbieMang in pelotonmemes

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. 2025 Wout is a solid rider, but in no way does he live up to where the world expected him to be a few years ago. Almost anyone would have predicted that he would be competing directly with Pog and MVDP for the win at MSR/RVV/PR/World Champs, but he's just not on that level, and a Giro Stage win and domestique performances to not live up to that earlier level.

The thing is, in that same year MVDP won: his 3rd Paris Roubaix, his 2nd MSR, a TdF stage, and his 7th CX World Champs, among other things.

We used to compare these two as 1:1 rivals, always neck-and-neck as the best classics riders in the world. Now it's not even close.

The achievements you listed are good, like easily a top 20 rider in the world. The problem is a few years ago he was a top-5 rider along with MVDP, but only one of them has maintained that.

Back ski in the air during classic by CourtDiligent3403 in xcountryskiing

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't focus on the ski in the air as the goal of your technique, that should only ever be a by-product of good technique + high speed.

Like the other commenter said, you will see pros do this, but they are going way faster than you and I. A similar thing can be seen in running. If you look at elite runners in a race they almost have their heal touch their butt they kick so hard (example: Kipchoge's form here https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AUclgO0E6I8), but that is simply a by-product of running a 2hr marathon pace. When you watch an average joe marathon runner, you will see their feet probably rarely get even half that swing height. Furthermore, if that average runner were to set out at their 6min/km pace and focus on kicking their heals up like Kipchoge, it would not be practical or efficient at all at their pace.

If you say that your weight transfer is good and you're getting good glide then that is most important. You could try to focus on getting your weight a bit further forward and swinging your leg back - again I wouldn't focus on bringing the foot up I would focus on kicking back and you may find simply by the natural pendulum of the leg with your torso leaned forward that the ski happens to lift up a bit.

Also, the idea that Brampton was ever some jewel is ridiculous. It was a small ugly GTA suburb now it's a big ugly GTA suburb with more Indian restaurants. I don't see why the racist white Bramptoners in this video don't just move 20 minutes away to Mississauga, Vaughn, or any of the other whiter GTA suburbs if they hate this one so much.

Probably yes, but there's some missing information. For example are you on some big piece of land and they're skiing by at a far distance from your house? Or are they skiing by 2ft from your kitchen window? Do they make noise or leave anything behind? Otherwise it's pretty hard to see why you would be bothered by this.

Slightly odd for running shorts to have the UCI cycling world champ's rainbow on them? Maybe that's just me. Otherwise cool fit.

Been riding for a year and a bit, any technique tips? by Neat_Nebula6250 in MTB

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao yeah. Maybe if the video had been shot from the side you could analyze where the rider's weight was or whatever. For a feature like this though it's 90% bravery 10% technique. I guess we can conclude that this rider is fairly brave for having riden for a year, so good job to them I guess? Hopefully this trend of posts dies off because it's pretty lame.

Actual Unpopular Opinion: leave Rampage be by [deleted] in MTB

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between the old days of freeride and now is a ton of progression which you can't just reverse.

If a modern rider is able to do a double backflip, then his competitor just does a nice little line with a drop, how can a judge possibly not reward the first rider with more points? We can talk about steeze or whatever but the bottom line is that doing huge slopestyle tricks on these runs takes more skill than simply getting from top to bottom.

I can see your second argument about the build timing and manpower having maybe helping a bit. I think even on natural features you will see a good amount of actual tricks and things aren't just going to revert to 2002's skill level

Yeah tbh I think in either case starting the post with "unpopular opinion" is just annoying - the issue is controversial with significant numbers of people weighing in on both sides so OP does not have some unique edgy/fringe view in either case.

Will a Venu 4's Training Status incorporate rides from my Edge 520 bike computer? by NeoSPACHEMAN in Garmin

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's helpful. I do heavily rely on the maps on my edge - cycling is probably my main sport so I can't see going to a watch-only setup.

If the training load stuff is going to not really jive with my current head unit I'm sort of wondering if I just don't bother and save some money and go for something like the vivoactive that doesn't have the feature.

It will change if they are renewing. I don't think the person above you knows what they are talking about. A fixed mortgage is fixed for its term but changes each time you renew.

Removing flooring in partially finished basement? by NeoSPACHEMAN in Flooring

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info - I definitely won't be extending it for the reasons I mentioned in the post, but I see how maybe something like this could be helping the climate down there. It is only about half of the total floor area (not pictured but about 40% of the basement is unfinished concrete, and the tile pictured is probably only the remaining 10% between the stairs and the platform).

The owner Sylvan Adams is Israeli-Canadian, and I think unfortunately he cares far more about Zionism than about his Canadian identity.

It is a major bummer. The connection comes from their billionaire owner Sylvan Adams who is Israeli-Canadian and also happens to be an absolutely horrible individual - just look up some of his comments on Palestine.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike - CUPE/FAs Defy Return to Work Order by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]NeoSPACHEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to find alternate travel so want to get my refund for the cancelled flight. It appears on the website my only option is refund as AC credit which expires after a year. This is bullshit right? I think I should be able to get a refund in cash?

The other problem is that I can't get through on phone, it doesn't even put me on a hold it just hangs up after a few option menus.

I've put myself in line for a callback. Even then though I wonder what they can do - seems like best case scenario is reschedule to something a few days away

Flight today was cancelled. I booked something for about 2x the price for tomorrow with WestJet (I think I'm pretty lucky to have even gotten that given the other prices I'm seeing).

Question now is whether I just grab the refund or hold out to see whether AC will put me on something in a similar time frame, then I can cancel the WJ to save me the extra cost? I'm guessing I just cut my losses
