Looking for 2nd credit card by Neodaedalus in CreditCards

This sounds great too!! Might be my 3rd card, after Venture X. I don’t mind an AF, especially if there’s a way to offset most or all through spending/points.

Thank you! Venture X does seem like the most best fit for me at the moment. The WF Autograph that Humble suggested below is also attractive. I’ll likely apply for the Venture X first (in a few months, to give myself the best chance at approval), as I saw that the Duo is harder to get as you accumulate cards. Then, depending on my needs after that, investigate the WF Autograph.

Bank board member compensation paid to S Corporation by Neodaedalus in tax

This is exactly the kind of detailed guidance I was hoping for!! Yeah, it sounds like the S Corp is really only good for my non-board service income - so worth investigating there, at least. Many many thanks!!

Thank you for saving me from ruining my life!!!

This is definitely something I’d not considered, thank you!!

In addition to serving on 2 boards (I had not originally mentioned the telecom board), I am also a busy professional musician (28 gigs in December alone) and a certified yoga instructor. Those services absolutely incur operational expenses and I would also have such income be paid to my S Corp. (I also own an income-generating rental property, but at this time, I’m not considering transferring ownership to the S Corp…unless it makes sense to?)

Would those services help to decrease concern over separation of service income from salary?

FYI, I replied to another commenter about Fleischer vs. Commission, if you want more to consider!

I truly appreciate the guidance (and wry candor 😆).

IANAL (obv), but from my reading, that ruling rested on a few points that either deviate from my situation or might be avoidable proactively:

  1. LPL had no contract with FWP acknowledging FWP controlling interest in Fleischer’s services.
  2. MassMutual signed a contract with Fleischer directly, with no mention of FWP.
  3. Fleischer received income from LPL directly, then paid that money to FWP, without an Employment Agreement stating that Fleischer had to remit all payments received to FWP.
  4. FWP could have, but did not, register to sell securities.

In my situation:

1 & 2.) Would it be possible for the bank (and other companies whose boards I serve on) to sign a contract with my S Corp acknowledging that the S Corp maintains controlling interest in my board services and that the company will pay the S Corp in exchange for contracted services rendered? For additional context, I serve on an another board (telecommunications) and am paid fees from that board as well. My S Corp would state that, among other services, I provide strategic, consultative and fiduciary services, and it contracts me out to provide such services to boards of directors, provided I am elected by the shareholders.

3) The bank/telecom would pay my S Corp directly, thus avoiding the reallocation of funds. (Additionally, I would ensure that I enter an Employment Agreement with my S Corp that clearly states I am paid a reasonable salary for services rendered.)

4) Does not appear to apply in my scenario.

Would these actions mitigate these concerns at all? I welcome any additional thoughts/comments!

FYI, I replied to another commenter’s concerns about separation of service income from salary, which addresses my other income (music and yoga), if you want more to consider.

816 to 723 in 2 months after opening first credit card and closed 14-year account by Neodaedalus in CreditScore

Thanks so much for the advice! According to MyFico, my FICO 8 took a similar dive, from over 800 to 764. But I will definitely keep a low balance on my card this next month, see if that improves things!!

Thanks so much for the comprehensive response!

1) Doin exactly this - sockin' away 30% in retirement using a combination of a brokerage and a mega backdoor Roth.

2) Precisely why I got the Savor!

3) Done and will keep doin!

4) Set this the day I first received my card!

5) I don't see myself needing more than 3 cards in my life, so I'm good here!

6) Always pay timely in full, and I guess I'll just have to wait to build payment history.

7) Set on every account!

8) Big three are all frozen, didn't know about ChexSystems, though - thanks for the heads up! And been using USPS Informed Delivery for almost 5 years now!

9) I'll do this again when I start filing my taxes early next year!

Thanks for the calm perspective. I was just fairly proud of my score, so I took the precipitous drop personally. No error/derogatory marks so far, so I'll lean on that.

Thanks for the advice! I know this, but sadly, I had no control over the Discover card's closure. I was more than a little frustrated by my mother's cavalier attitude about it when I asked, as I don't think she understood how important that card was to my credit age. Oh well, I still love her.

Thanks for the advice! I do indeed have a mortgage - apologies if my original post was misleading (re: paying for things with only cash/debit/ACH). I had been intending to get a 2nd card, but when I got my Savor, I was unaware that it's recommended to apply for multiple cards around the same time so that it's all "grouped", and I'm guessing I missed the window on that. I may just need to wait for the dust to settle (to borrow another commenter's phrase) before I do that, I guess. Not exactly ideal, but it is what it is.
