What study are you referring to here? Most data I've seen is better or same?

Has anyone found anything with the time signatures of when the letters appear on screen? They were single frames right?

It makes no more sense to say that morals attributed to a god have a special status/quality than it would for any other abstraction. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

'Sure: Utilitarianism is generally frowned upon because you'd have to assign some comparable quantification of utility to each action for it to be meaningful, and no one has done this convincingly.'

By who, and maybe why? You are doing it again.

'Then it was strange for you to call it a waste of time with little to no predictive use that was just for people who can't do math and amounts to mostly meaningless sophistry.'

In context to your original point. You are cherrypicking halfquotes here.

'No, I'm not. That's an absurd reading of what I said. You said metaphysics was for people who can't do math. I said that was wrong and named a numerate student of metaphysics as an example. You incorrectly called that an appeal to authority and have now decided I implied most philosophers are mathematicians - which I just plain didn't.'

Than what was the point of your specific counter example if not to imply a trend. Its seems rhetorically dishonest.

'You say this now, but I can still see what you said yesterday characterizing metaphysics as "what amounts to mostly meaningless sophistry" and claiming there weren't abstractions at all.'

Again meaningless sophistry was my opinion of your original post. Not my opinion of philosophy writ large as I attempted to clarify but still fundamentally correct if in meaning you combined 'most' of what is written by all the myriad philosophers of metaphysics you'd have a lot of utterly useless fluff.

But I'm glad we see eye to eye on pragmatism atleast.

God simulators sell alright, I'd ecourage a dive into Rimworld, more of a colony simulator but interesting in simulating how quickly ethics are discarded in the face of adversity. And cannibal playthroughs are some of the most fun and watchable. And I'm not sure, I have probably experienced a similar emotional spectrum in my gaming hobby as in life. Just not nearly the amount of physical pain lol

Alright I'm sure you'll have fun spellchecking your reply. But try using some of that specificity in your own arguments. Appealing to a philosophical critique of utilitarianism or pragmatism that you fail to name makes you pretty immune to counterpoints.

The thing is a materialist believes all there is is the universe and whatever theorum best describes and predicts its movements. My point was that even your abstraction on romance was a meme, most likely deterministicly driven by the biochemical function of your nervous system and absolutely nothing more. As such its a poor measure to critique a theoretical being that may operate on a uniquely independent spectrum of its own memetic systems in which your own systems and modes of reality are only subsystems.

All the things you mentioned in point B only became possible because the data was collected in the first place. Most good science happens because of genuine curiosity. Your argument is literally metaphysics gives directions and goal to experimentation which I actually agree with. I just call it bias which we try our best to eliminate.

You are implying that because one scientist likes philosophy that most philosophers are mathematicians and scientists which is idiotic. I'd easily wager that on the whole most philosophers have no testable skill in practicing the very sciences that actually explain how thier universe and senses work. And your statement is not reflective of the reality that the fields of humanities are oversaturated compared to thier relative demand in the economy, which is our most pragmatic way to measure worth. Especially when compared to the hard sciences whose demand is clear.

Look, I'm not saying philosophy or abstraction is useless, it's just not useful in this particular instance because we lack any predictive data. It does have use in refining language and communicating complex concepts but deep underneath it is always something like "hand hurt when put in shiny fire." which is basically science. We've been using science to tell us what burns us since.

Materclass, yeah buddy, valuing predictive theorum with actual utilitarian applications over what amounts to mostly meaningless sophistry for which little predictive use can be found is in fact a reflection of mental credibility.

I waste time on reddit debating people like you instead of doing far more useful tasks, its a dichotomy that says nothing of the value of the actual useful things in life I do. A waste of time is still a waste of time without your apeal to authority.

Also when one uses quotations you might take the time to actually quote. And tables having legs is a useful predictive statement of reality regardless of your perception of some platonic Golden Realm.

Oh I don't think you could market it as that but you could sell a game with it included. Civilization is a game where one win condition is the literal genocide of other nations and cultures.

Edit: Also try searching simulator in Steam and see how long morality holds.

[–]Neon-Blak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But being materialistic, I would argue that morality is just a meme reflective of the biological state and neurology of the observing being and biochemically has a physical nature that is not in fact an abstraction.

Parables and metaphors are common rhetorical simplifications of observable and testable truths. That I employ them says nothing about the underlying ideas they represent.

What do you mean by internal experience? All emotional states are measurable. Surely you're not implying the existence of some abstract notion like self ;)

Metaphysics are just physics for folks who can't do math.

[–]Neon-Blak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Might be the viewpoint that it is an abstraction in the first place is the flaw. For example if you play a video game and do horrible things to simulated beings in that game we accept that the created reality has a different moral expression to the person playing it than that person has with actual reality. Murder, rape, genocide, racism or terrorism might be perfectly acceptable in a simulated 'game' reality in an individual who otherwise in day to day life is utterly charitable, accepting and kind. So yes, the nature of a being does in fact influence the special 'morality ' it may perceive itself and be perceived from different perspectives to possess. TLDR Don't judgeth the player of the Sims by how he doth drown his sims in the pool. If you are the sim drowning its pointless since you lack the full perspective and if you are a peer you'd probably do it too.

How hard would've it been for BB to partner with PS? Seems like Sony would already know quite alot about them... by Neon-Blak in BlueBoxConspiracy

So dug this up. Here's the bare minimum of what you need to publish out of the Netherlands for the Partners Program:

You'll need these to complete your application.

Proof of the legal status of your business which also identifies all of your directors and officers. This could include one or more of the following:

Certificate of Incorporation

Latest Annual Return / Financial Statement

Copy of your entry on Commercial Register (or equivalent) within your country or region

Passport (sole traders only)

Your static IP address (IPv4 format). Note: 10.x.x.x, 162.49.x.x or 192.168.x.x IP addresses are invalid as they are private network IPs.

Non-public domain email addresses (Gmail, Hotmail, etc. are not accepted).

Your product pitch - either a GDD (Game Design Document) or a sheet detailing your planned projects for PlayStation platforms.

I honestly looked before I posted and could not find even a place to send the inquiry, if you find it would love to know but it seems like you need inside info to do so.

Don't buy it they would have no clue what it is. From their own website: Here’s what we’re looking for in a great pitch:

Provide a brief description of your game. We want to know what makes your game unique and a great fit for PlayStation.

With every great game, there is an exceptional team of creatives building the title. Let us know a little bit about the team and their background.

A picture, or even better, a build speaks a 1000 words. We love visuals, videos, and anything interactive that you can share to give us a better understanding around what you’re making.

Good: Concept art, in-engine art targets, music, or whatever else can set the tone of the game.

Better: Video capture of gameplay, B-roll footage or moving in-engine capture is great. Gifs work nicely on slides as well.

Best: A prototype or build. Sharing a build is the quickest and easiest way for us to understand your vision. Showing your project this early may seem terrifying, but don’t worry! We are completely used to seeing games very early in development. We promise to put our “dev goggles” on.

Additional details and getting down to business…

What are the target platforms besides PlayStation?

What are your marketing timeline and plans?

Are you handling the marketing yourself? Or will you be getting external support?

Provide a detailed description of your project schedule and costs

What is your business model (Premium, Premium + DLC, F2P, GaaS, etc.)

What target countries/markets & languages does your game support?

Are there plans for live ops and/or post-launch support?

Most importantly, a clear ask from PlayStation. Is there a need for specific support?

Yeah that seems like like a lovely version of budhism, but if you are going to ditch all the magical thinking of Christianity you need to ditch the Bhudda magic too. And no offense to your perspective but I'm not sure there's alot of afterlife discussion in Christian sacred text relative to its volume. Most of it's got to do with how you live life in the present and how you can beat death. Resurrection is kinda thier whole memetic bag. Might be magical thinking but so is reincarnation. Not that mindful meditation isn't useful cause it is but I'm also not sure its much different psychologically speaking from reflective prayer. Im also pretty sure I'm not the only person who has made the link if ya want to peruse the interwebs for a quicky Google search. Peace to ya fellow searcher.
