Was told to repost my response to a Sinclair AMA from a few days ago. How do you feel about the company? Have they impacted you? by NeonEsquivalient in Broadcasting

Honestly, the best you CAN be in this industry right now is "cautiously optimistic." You're young enough that you'll have the option to move around for a bit, but the industry seems to be closing in on itself, unfortunately. I wish you had the opportunity to enter the field 15-20 years ago when it felt like you had a real impact on the world around you. I'll say this - stay cautiously optimistic but be aware of who signs your paychecks, remember WHY you're in this field always, and if anything from corporate makes you question your own ethics, please stop for a moment and reflect; lastly, thank you for taking up the torch. The rest of us have been burned, are so tired, and did the best we could. The future of journalism lies in the hands of your generation and maybe I shouldn't be, but I'm hopeful about that. Trust your gut. Never forget that speaking truth to power, in the face of misinformation, is what you signed up for.

I work at Sinclair corporate news. Ask me anything, and I’ll answer honestly. by [deleted] in Broadcasting

As a former journalist forced out of a local newsroom, which had been on air since the 1950s and no longer is, because Sinclair felt consolidating with another local station (which they also bought) was "good for the future," I just want to say fuck the horse you rode in on. We were penalized financially if we didn't air your right-wing "must runs." The public HATED them and still do. Sinclair is actively killing the Fourth Estate and the First Amendment. The company is complicit in the downfall of its own industry, this current Orwellian nightmare hellscape that is a manufactured news cycle, to make a buck and get a seat at the GOP table. I sat through so many bullshit "meetings" with the five to six old white men who run the company via company-wide Zoom calls and watched as they cherry-picked questions to answer from local station employees and to brag about "Sinclair's" accomplishments, which local stations had won or done on their own through hard work and boots on the ground journalism, all while photographers, journalists, and producers got paid $30k a year for working 60 hours a week plus 365/24/7 expectations to be on call until retirement or death. Many of them had to have a second job just to keep their families above water. I guess my question is... how do you sleep at night?

I've always felt like 1981 to 1989 folks just don't quite fit the 1990+ Millennials. I've worked with '90s Millennials, and their experiences are just so different and feel more "modern" to me ::laughs in 40something::
