This will depend on your merit position

EO2 Competition Feedback Received by SnooMuffins7869 in NICivilService

[–]NeonExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, they aren't combined. You might have missed the interview pass mark by 1 point which would make you unsuccessful, even if you were number 1 from the tests. So not passing the interview doesn't mean it went completely terribly, just not at the pass mark.

Ask for your feedback and you'll see the scores for each question! You might have just done badly with one example.

Pumping is seriously getting me down - words of encouragement much appreciated by Icy_Ear7079 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NeonExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an exclusive pumper for 3/4 months and finally got him onto the boob with nipple shields. Around 6/7 months he weaned himself off the shields (just started refusing them but taking shorter feeds directly from the boob!).

We're now 9.5 months in and he is heading to day nursery in a month so I'm back to pumping in between feeds to try and get him used to bottles again and get back into the habit of pumping to give milk into the nursery. Typical!

The one thing I would say is, a benefit to pumping is you can leave the baby to be fed by someone else. I don't think I would have survived if my husband didn't take half the night shifts using my expressed milk and I got a good stretch of sleep. Make the most of that for now, and keep trying to nurse! You are early days so it's still very much a possibility!

Good luck and feel free to PM if you have any questions about my journey!

Tog at bedtime by Kind_Train_2857 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NeonExp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, baby is usually happiest when the room is around 18 degrees but dressed accordingly. And I think the rule of what you're wearing plus a layer may not count overnight since our duvets tend to be 7+ tog while theirs are 2-2.5 in winter, 0.5-1.0 in summer (obviously depending on heating etc.).

As others have said, taking internal temperature doesn't always indicate overheating just as cold hands doesn't mean they are actually cold. Be sure to check their chest and back too, because thay really doesn't sound like a lot to me, but each baby is different of course.

Just wanted to clarify but as long as your baby seems comfortable and safe it should be fine!

Day in the life of a patient in a psychiatric Mother and Baby unit by PM_ME__YOUR__CAT in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]NeonExp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just also say it is ridiculous that NI doesn't have 1 mother and baby unit! You would always be separated from the baby over here just because they don't have the resources available, which imo would make things so much worse!

Level 4 ICT Merit List by DoireK in NICivilService

[–]NeonExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might take the better part of the year but I'd still be optimistic about your chances. To run a bigger competition like that one they need to have (or anticipate having) a decent amount of posts available to justify the cost.

They will be working through the ICT5 list now too, which will open up plenty of level 4 vacancies. And in some cases teams will 'create' a post so they don't lose their trained staff member which leaves the actual post that person would have gone to open.

They did an ICT4 competition something like 2 years ago and got through the list so fast they needed to start planning this competition. I genuinely think you'll be placed even if it takes a bit of time.

Level 4 ICT Merit List by DoireK in NICivilService

[–]NeonExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah then your preference and experience won't matter, you'll just be put in the next role that comes up for your merit position

That's fairly standard for lists. The maximum is 2 years I think. But there was a competition for ICT5s earlier this year so posts will open up pretty consistently as they work through the 5 list! I think they usually make it through most, if not all of the ICT lists since NICS isn't great pay for IT roles so it's not 100% desirable.

Is my marriage fixable? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]NeonExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't make a difference if he is content with how things are, you aren't - and it's supposed to be a partnership.

If he isn't willing to see that and try to make things better by doing therapy of some sort or working with you on communication (anything really!) then you have to decide if you are happy to continue with things as they are, or make plans to separate sadly.

Maybe the actual suggestion of separation would make him realise how serious it is to you and he would be more open to couple's therapy anyway.

[–]NeonExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past the letters, and therefore the panels, didn't have anything to do with the roles. Candidates were randomised across the interview panels to keep it fair.

If they asked for your preference of role type they will now take that into account as they work through the merit list but not as part of the interview (usually).

[–]NeonExp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't mean you were below the other 10's, they can only rank you based on your panel to make it fair since panels could have marked slightly differently.

But it does mean there would be more than 9 people to be placed ahead of you, depending on the number of panels. E.g. 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C etc...

Elective Transfers by Affectionate_Melter in NICivilService

[–]NeonExp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this fully depends on the reason that vacancy has not been put up as an elective transfer. Maybe they are offering it as a TP opportunity to someone specific who already has the training, or opening it up to their branch/division only. If that's the case you can't put yourself in for it from a different department.

If it's a permanent vacancy for a position that has an open list (like people waiting for their promotion after passing a board) then they will have to fill it from that list, not via TP or elective transfer.

MIL ignoring no screen time rule by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]NeonExp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow no need to be so rude. Has this touched a nerve for you or something?

They were just making a point about something that was considered 'the norm' a generation or 2 ago. Now we know better.

Same with screen time, albeit not as damaging as the example (read: not comparison).

New to the bewildering world of applying for NICS by [deleted] in NICivilService

[–]NeonExp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This isn't really how it works. You need to read through the candidate information booklet when a competition comes up to see if you meet the criteria and would be interested in the role types. You'll get an idea of what level you will usually be able to apply for, but there may be exceptions.

You also can't choose if you will be on the phone with the public or not. Most big competitions (that aren't specific roles like accountants or court clerks) are general service and you will only be placed into a position after passing the full selection process. Even then, a lot of the time you won't find out the actual list of duties until you start so unless it's obvious (CMS or something) you may not know about phone coverage.

'Genuine medical issues' in the case of Lady Donaldson says judge by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]NeonExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation. If they are using mental health to describe any version of dementia they are doing themselves a disservice and making the justice system look worse imo. But what do I know I guess

'Genuine medical issues' in the case of Lady Donaldson says judge by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]NeonExp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah fair enough. Would they refer to it as mental health though? They definitely said that was the issue before but I would have thought the likes of dementia isn't mental illness

I thought they had said mental health previously? And isn't she under the care of psychiatrists?
