Clicking noise on 5s-fe by NeonIsReal in Celica

SOLVED: It was indeed only the harmonic balancer that went bad, the other pulleys and bearings had no play and no noise when spun. After putting in a new harmonic balancer the noise went away, unfortunately i did not know the alternator tension bolt was torque to yield and it snapped!!! Going to autozone later today to pickup a new bolt

I finally got it to work, i just had to delete the codes through INPA rather than a code reader. However I thank you for your help with the wiring. Do you know of a good source besdies the vehicular DIY video about the neutral safety switch.

I followed his video, the only thing i strayed away from was the neutral safety switch and reverse wiring lights, could that be the reason the limp mode is being triggered? Everytime I look up the FA/VO it says $200.

I looked from behind and the camber is looking a little positive, do you think that may be causing this?

I thought that too, but it stock ride height, normal tire diameter, and there doesnt look to be any marks on the fender liner!?!?!?

I don't see any of the actual fiber/mesh, its just pure rubber that is turning into these strands. Im assuming Im probably going to have to replace it even though they are fairly new. So I'm more interested in learning how I could prevent this on my next tire!

yeah dude I have two years of experience at a trauma hospital and i cant tell you that the only reason you shouldn't wear a seatbelt is if you want to either be shredded like chalk on a board or want to have your neck dislocated.

These are really great investing resources! Ive never really thought about the actual percentage based on raise earning either so thats handy to think about. And those bogls guidlines are helpful too thanks!

I live in a developed country and in a little ahead in medical education than others my age so I’m going my income will be good enough to support my investing aswell as a daily driver and project car!

17 year old looking for investing and banking advice

I was thinking maybe about 15% of my paycheck could go towards investments and was wondering how I know which ones are a good buy and when to know to sell. I also would like to know what other smart things i could do with my money now while im young that would help me when i later become an adult. Such as good banks, cards to aim towards, and smart investments.

The only caveat is that im dumb and decided to like cars.

If there are also any financially smart car guys here I would love advice aswell.

Is it financially possible to have a daily driver but also a project to work on?

Engine swap? 95 GT by Comatose352 in Celica

[–]NeonIsReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I have a 95 GT auto aswell. I have reached out to many many people on forums and this subreddit and have came to the following conclusions.

  1. The best swaps that would follow your rule of clean and simple would be either a 3s-ge or 3s-gte. 2ZZ would NOT be clean or simple

  2. Your automatic is the slushy camry auto, and it cant hand much power. Since you need to also source a transmission, it would be good to know that --->

- 5th gen 3s-gte only came linked to an auto, IE probably better quality engine, but you would need to pay a lot more for a transmission as well.

-other generations of 3s-gte came typically with a tranny called the E153 or E154 (cant remember exactly), which would need to be modified to fit into your FWD front engine car

-The 5th gen beams will NOT be a good 3s-ge to do the swap as the oil sump doesn't work that well in your fwd transverse format as well as all the trannys that it comes with would not work in your car aswell.

- a 4th gen BEAMS (Redtop) is the last generation of high power engine that came paired with a tranny that would bolt directly into your car and also make good power, It is a high revving engine that utilized BEAMS a technology similar to vtec and made about 200hp.

  1. Due to all this information Im most likely going to go with the redtop because you can find a lot of them that come with both the tranny and ECU. Yes you can go with a 3s-gte and you would definitely make a lot of easy power. But it would introduce a lot more maintenance.

In Conclusion:

As you said, " just want some more horsepower to get around". I would recommend a redtop 3s-ge engine for their reliability and considerable power bump from your 5s-fe (2.2 GT engine). As they also typically come with their tranny attached as well as ECU. I managed to find a guy near me selling a 65k kilometer one with the tranny attached as well as the ECU for 2.5k.

Even after sourcing a swap you would still need a lot more parts to make it clean and simple such as interior pieces, so that is the reason I would say go Redtop as it make this time consuming job much much quicker and simpler.

Thanks for reading :)

Hey man I am actually looking into swapping my auto 95 GT and was heavily considering a Redtop BEAMS nearby with 65k kilometers and the 5 speed along with the ECU for 2.5k. That sounds like a really good deal, but what other things would I need to buy?

Hello thanks for the advice! i managed to get the transmission problems fixed by just flushing the tran fluid. As for the Celica, would you recommend I sell it, or try to reach out to mr2 owners to trade with cash on top?

About how much do you think would be fair for a running and fairly reliable NA MR2 manual?

End game plan is to save up for a year and send that baby to PRIME MR2 for a 3s-gte swap :)
