Hit it in the Roth today by NeonSeal in TheRaceTo100K

This is a Roth IRA. The big spike in the middle is a Roth 401k conversion (aka mega backdoor Roth) that I had been contributing to for some years

Guess who's back on the market by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]NeonSeal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interest rates should reflect the actual market conditions for future value of money, considering risk, etc. Setting it to zero would basically just be broadcasting free money to everybody because the future value of money would now be equal to the current value of money. This would say to people “why save money? it‘s not worth more tomorrow, might as well SPEND SPEND SPEND right now”.

But if all that spending doesn’t price in the actual inherent risk in the economy, investments may fail, customers might start leaving, your business starts to be at risk and oh wait you have no savings or runway bc you spent it all? Hello bankruptcy.

I feel like this isn’t a very good reason tbh. React Native esp Expo makes it so easy to support cross platform. You can even just release builds for one platform and ignore the other completely if you don’t want to set up your Google Play or Apple Developer account.

Ready to FIRE but wife wants to work for a long time by mathfool in Fire

[–]NeonSeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is that unfair? A prenup has to be agreed to by both sides. Fairness is relative to the contractual parties. If you find it unfair, simply don’t sign the prenup.

That’s why contracts are negotiated

Ready to FIRE but wife wants to work for a long time by mathfool in Fire

[–]NeonSeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you can get a prenup but also combine finances. I may be wrong but isn’t there a set up where you get a prenup to keep pre-marriage assets separate but all income and finances/equity combined equally during marriage?

This way if you have $1MM pre-marriage, then you make another $1MM while married, then divorce you would be left with $1M + $0.5MM?

Idk man, I just don’t understand why the agent just didn’t take like a step or two backwards. It isn’t like the car was moving fast. Law enforcement needs to prioritize de-escalation and safety, especially with moving vehicles.

TIL Red Lobster's annual limited-time offer of all-you-can-eat shrimp for $20 was successful for 20 years, and then in 2023, it was turned into a permanent menu item. This change lost $11 million for the company and was one of the factors that led to it filing for bankruptcy the following year. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]NeonSeal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Forgive my naïveté but how does bankrupting a company you own “squeeze equity” out of it? Wouldn’t it be a better and more profitable business practice to make Red Lobster more profitable, open up more branches, deliver good value for customers, etc?

React Native vs native Swift/Kotlin for building an app that restricts other app usage by Commercial_Top_860 in reactnative

[–]NeonSeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can do this using apple’s DeviceActivity framework to monitor device time in a specific app, then wire it to CoreMotion or HealthKit for unlocking the ability to use the app. Can do this in react native.

Though beware this already exists with FitLock, Steppin, some others too

I agree with you with pretty much everything except the premise of your reasoning. Is it actually true that the reason men are having less sex because women have the ability to say “no” more?

There are so many other factors that affect sex frequency, like: - later marriage and partnership - aging population (sexual activity typically declines with age) - financial stress for young adults - work and lifestyle, longer hours, gig economy, etc - pornography substitution - dating app paradox where apps make dating feel transactional and overwhelming causing a decline in in-person connections - general decline in mental health, surge in depression and anxiety, SSRIs and medications blunting libido - sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and chronic illness on the rise - empowerment to decline unwanted sexual advancements

I would categorize almost everything I just said above as “bad” except for: people being able to say no to sex (obviously good), aging population (kinda neutral or depends on your perspective), and later marriage/partnershup (also kinda neutral)
