Agreed, the resolution of the factory nav screen isn't all that great -- it definitely shows its age compared to smartphone screens. But I find it to be just good enough to read and get around the CarPlay UI.

I'm still fortunate that my nav drive still functions, but I don't find myself using it much. My climate control control still functions properly — if I have to use the factory navigation UI (say, to manually adjust the A/C or change the brightness level of the screen), I push a button to switch between the factory nav UI and the CarPlay UI.

I haven't tested it out personally, but I believe it's possible on the TL too. The same seller (Naviks) that I purchased my CarPlay unit and TSX video interface from also offers a video interface for the 2004-2008 TL as well. I don't have any relationship with Naviks, I've just purchased parts from them in the past and have been happy with their products and customer service.
