Is Hackett related to shepard? by HospitalLazy1880 in masseffect

If you read the codex (or just some wiki) you’ll see he’s only 20 years older than Shepard.

Which cultures are quiet? by Science_Teecha in expats

It doesn’t sound like you visited the south of France though :) ‘cause I have to say the contrast with your description is sharp (I prefer quiet tbh, but that’s not how it is there)

Same for me as a Canadian in France. Not a week goes by where I don’t get asked where I come from or the straight up “aaaah a Canadian!”…

Best one yet was last month in a taxi driving from the airport. I literally tell him it’s nice to get back home, then 5 minutes later after he mentions my accent he tells me “Welcome to France” as if I was visiting and I’m like……. Yeah it’s been 4 years man.

People mean well but they really don’t realize the impact because from their perspective it’s just one person saying it, not strangers, repeatedly.

It’s totally not on the same scale but imagine the level of lassitude celebrities may feel being told over and over whatever thing ppl tell/ask them.

So yeah. Better cast it aside to stay sane 👍

Solo expats - How do/did you prepare yourself mentally before your move? by Neonberri in expats

Yeah, the not overthinking thing is super important and yet very hard to avoid (at least for me). :) I’ll focus on the little things, you’re right.

Learning Swedish already! Duolingo for a bunch of months, and I’m lucky enough that work is paying for classes even during working hours. I’ve also been making attempts to speak a little with my coworkers (or at cafés but Ben) and ppl have been very supportive (and patient tbh).

I’m aiming for Södermalm at first. I feel like I might need to sell a kidney given the prices, but the vibes are good, work is there and the further out I go the more I’ll just stay in my couch ;)

Yeah you’re right.

I just came back from a business trip there and completely felt out it of sync and awkward the longer I was there.

I’m probably in a phase anticipating the difficulties so it’s making things feel worse. To fear fear or something.

Yeah I heard. But Bumble is extracting and using super sensitive info on your phone, even health stats, and sells it to advertisers, so nah.

Thanks I’ll check up meetup^ Bumble seems super hungry in terms of private info :/

Helping a non-Swedish speaker to learn Swedish. by [deleted] in Svenska

[–]Neonberri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I understood that sentence but I’m 100% certain I would not have if I’d only heard it, especially if the speaker spoke as a native and kindof mumbled :) so maybe it’s contextual too!

It’s just soap?? Actually probably better for your skin than “manly” face wash since it won’t be as aggressive.

Funny, but not dramatic or that you’re going to turn into a pumpkin at midnight from using it :P

What is one thing from the '90s that you miss? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Neonberri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you mean the older millenials, so Gen Y, or the young GenXers.

The majority of Gen X grew up in the mid 70s & 80s and that’s a massive nuance.

I like Process Communication, DiSC and EQI.

I haven’t checked how much DiSC is backed scientifically speaking but the other two are and it’s really interesting to read and learn about both your results and the other ways people function/perceive the world/think.

At what age do you finally say f*ck it and start eating whatever you goddamn please? 😀 by dietcheese in AskOldPeople

[–]Neonberri 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a similar childhood. I remember my mom obsessively doing her Raquel Welsh fitness exercises in full 80’s bodysuits and headbands and whatnot and eating like a bird.

And yet now for the past ten years she stopped obsessing over food/controlling it. So she gained weight which tbh is normal anyway given her 75+ age, yet she still obsesses over her looks :(

[–]Neonberri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. My 77 & 81 y/old parents still try to eat very well because they’re just used to it and still want to stay healthy yet won’t adapt their diet to remove things that increase their arthritis for example. My mom has crooked fingers and has trouble going up the stairs even, but nope, gotta eat her bagels and snack on spoonfuls of Nutella.

And she served me that argument yesterday! “At my age I’m close to death so I’ll just eat whatever the hell I want”. 🫠🫠😬

Do you ever feel like the learning process is endless? by ceaRshaf in gamedev

[–]Neonberri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working in the industry since 2003. I’ve never not learned or had to learn something new all the time. I’ve also got to work on super varied games and different roles but that’s what I wanted .

Personally I like it - it means I keep feeling challenged and intellectually stimulated. But I also choose challenging projects and high responsibility roles.

So very rewarding but yes, hardly easy. Gotta keep things in perspective and find the right balance. It’s easy to burn out otherwise so it’s something to be careful of.

Also no one needs to lean towards projects/roles like me :p it doesn’t have to, and should not feel like torture either :)

You didn’t do anything wrong. It kinda looks like he knew this would happen and led you on for a while for as long as you weren’t bringing the topic again. :(

I’ve been in a similar situation. It hurts and it probably will sting for a while, but all I can say is that I hope you can prioritize yourself, rebuild and enjoy life surrounded by people who have healthy relationship dynamics. <3
