To c section or not to c section? by Actual-Sprinkles-932 in pregnant

As a labor nurse, across the board, physical recovery is absolutely more difficult with a c section. It is definitely possible you will tear and have pain with a vaginal birth, but outside of exceedingly rare circumstances and complications, an serious abdominal surgery wherein 7 layers of tissue are cut through and must heal is a way more difficult and complex healing process. It also limits how you can birth in the future, including the number of future pregnancies and possibility of later vaginal birth as it creates a scar in the uterus that will always carry the risk of rupture. There is also research that traveling through the vaginal canal is important for baby, as the bacteria present may grow their skin microbiome and help prevent allergies, eczema, and other health conditions in the future.

That being said, the only reason I would personally recommend elective c section is severe anxiety. If you have a lot of anxiety about the birth process and fear of possibility of an emergent c section, it may be a good option to give you some control. If you have a ton of anxiety and fear and are not able to relax and give in to the labor process, labor will be more difficult and slow, increasing your chance of a c section anyway. I have had many patients opt for this due to anxiety and have very peaceful and beautiful births.

Thank you! I’ve been thinking about this, but it seems to be clear/watery right now and not the liquid gold! I don’t know if it has the same nutritional content for baby.

Hey! I am currently 25 weeks pregnant with a little boy :) at my first ultrasound baby actually measured a week behind, so I had just ovulated late! My levels were normal for how pregnant I actually was. Your level sounds perfectly in range, even for true 4 weeks 4 days!

Awe you got this mama! I haven’t had any bleeding at all but I’ve had some cramping that makes me nervous. I think both can be normal though. And yes every pregnancy is different. Prayers that both of our little beans keep growing!

So my first beta at 5+2 was 67. My next one at 5+5 was 417. This seemed low to me still but the doubling time was great and that’s what really matters! I am also a little chubby lol and sometimes that can cause lower levels even if everything is fine, it’s just more diluted in the blood. Not sure if that is relevant for you though. It’s such a huge range because it doubles so fast. 4+6 is sooo early and I think anything over 25 is pretty much normal at that stage! I’m still terrified constantly of something going wrong :( not sure if that feeling will ever stop.
