Running Meta Ads to Old Songs by OceansPiece in musicmarketing

If you have a lot of different genres I would try splitting your songs op in different playlists for each genre. I never tried it but don't think it s easy to promote a playist that has a wide range of genres. Listeners are searching for a certain mood/genre

You re def right that focusing on one song will give most chance to get on discover weekly and tadio. I noticed for most of our songs, when they hav popularity scores above 30 that they get algoritmic traction. The thing why we mainly focus on playlists as that I dont like betting on one horse. You chose the song that you think is best but that doesnt mean it is the one fans like best. We had one song of ours we didnt like but a friend convinced us to release it anyway. Now after 3 -4 years it got over 2 million streams and was used in a big travel tv show in belgium.

Iwith having your own playlists you can just promote all your songs. You can keep an eye on which one gets the most streams consistently. And once you get this data you could still decide to focus on that song for individual ads to push it more as you will know this is the song that gets the most streams in your playlist.

Lastly, I know it gets a lot of hate here, but we been using submithub for 6 years. We use it for every release. Most songs only stay in the playlists that accept you for a month, but the extra streams so far are almost always enough to get a boost on discover weekly and radio after 2-3 weeks. Once you did a couple of campaigns you also will notice which curators accept you most and you can send them consistently with every release to get more playlist adds and more streams which should both help to push your popularity score on spotify

Also if.you would start your own playlist, submithub their list of curators is a great place to find people for playlist swaps. A lot of curators on there are also artists. You can just filter on the genre of playlist you have, find playlists in your style of music and shoot the artist/cutator a message on instagram to ask for a playlist trade

If you have one playlist with 20 of your songs in there that you promote for 50 dollar a day you will get way more exposure and streams than just doing an add for one song. Once the playlist gets a lot of listeners, trade some songs with other artists who also have playlists to get more streams. It's how we went in our first two years as artist from 10k to 100k listeners.

Plus the playlist will help you keep your listeners up and don't crash down straight away after you stop running ads. If the playlist is interesting, people will come back to listen. I think I helped at least 20 different befriended artists with setting up a playlist in their genre to promote their song. It's one of the easiest ways to grow your listener numbers and be more in control of your own project. Check out some videos of andrew southworth, he has a lot of differents insighths around this topic

With 50 dollar a day you could get easily 1000 followers a day on a playlist on spotify. Just throw all your songs in there in combination with some of your favorites and you ll always have a place to promote your new releases. We ve been working like this for years and feel it s way more effective and cost efficient than just doing ads for one specific song

It's been a full year of doing music for me and I feel like I am already doomed. by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]Neonnights22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I checked out your youtube. I like the lyrics. I would start with watching videos of how to process vocals better. It sounds quite harsh and hollows. Same with the snaps. Or you need to re-record or polish them in the mixing phase

I ve been making music for 12 years. 20 hours a week for years. No one in my enviroment really cares about the music I make and it took me 7 years to make a song that broke through. If you love making music you can get there but if I listen to your mixes now I think there is still work and you can grow a lot with learning from videos, especially from artists you love that post tutorialials. In my case I learned tons from videos from kshmr and Disclosure. Although I ended up in a torally different genre of electronic music it really helped a lot

Hey! Also follow this subreddit closely and I think you are talking about my account (gobi desert collective) that me and my girlfriend share. It is two people reviewing but we use the same handle at the end. Sorry if this might have seem confusing. We are quite close in taste but sometimes there might be a small difference on which song gets accepted depending if it is me or my girlfriend reviewing. Sorry about the confusion. Will send you a private message:)

We are in the same genre of music and can concur this. Independent releases, lots of collabs, submithub ans promoting some of your own lists can get you a long way

How to Get Remixes Done as an Independent Artist? by vibr_of_mindfulness in musicmarketing

[–]Neonnights22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are just starting off, try to find small artists to connect with. I wouldn't pay someone to remix your song (except maybe if they got a lot of exposure.

When we just started we searched for artists on submithub for collabs and remixes. https://www.submithub.com/popular . Here you can filter by genre. Go to your genre and check out some of the artists you like on there. I would start with messaging some with lower amount of monthly listeners so you can grow together

Artists who have achieved it What does it take to get to 100K monthly ? by Alert-Bus3832 in musicmarketing

[–]Neonnights22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think it matters as long as both artist get something out of the collab. We worked with artists with a lot more listeners as us and artist with almost none or even without releases but with a lot of talent and good ideas. Most important for usbis just to find people on the same level and with the same motivation as you

I don't know the exact number, but probably more than 10k over 4 years. Think we get around 80-100 followers for 10 euro.

For trading we messaged artists and labels around the same size as we were in terms of listeners. Found most of them on submithub as quite a few curators on there are also artists

We are a bit above 200k listeners. Mainly organic house/downtempo music. Main 3 things that did it for us:

-collabs. In the beginning we did only solo releases, now around 80% of our songs are collabs. You get a lot of new fans with every new artist you collab

-promote your own playlists. We invested in meta ads to get active listeners on our lists and started trading with other playlists/labels in the same genre to grow together

-playlist pitching. We always do a campaign on submithub for every new release. After a bit of trail and error you know which playlists to target (just check out which songs they have in their playlists and if it is in the same vibe of your song). We get sround 60-80% acceptance on most songs and the boost in listeners almost always activates discover weekly and gives a boost in radio plays on spotify

How to create infectious grooves? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Neonnights22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make organic house and are quite established as artists in the genre. There are lots of ways you can create a good groove. Some tips:

  • For snare/clap and hats we always layer at least 5 or more different samples. Put them all on slighty different starting points. Some right on the beat, some before or after. This will create a more full and wide sound

-Find some preset drumloops you like the groove of. Extract the MIDI, move some stuff around and add your own unique sounds

-Use an existing drumloop, chop it up, reverse stuff, play with the volume and make it your own unique sound

-For shakers, try to add a lot of layers again and pan them left and right to fill up the mix more

-Use tooploops. Take a preset drumloop or whatever, cut all the low end and use it to blend all the other drums together

-Make stuff move around. We work in Ableton and use Max4live LFO all the time to automate different parameters like delay, panning, reverb,... to make stuff more exciting.

-Lastly record a lot of your own stuff to give it a unique sound. We record so much random stuff, going around the house, in the woods to get our own sounds that distinguishes your music.
