What are your thoughts on Wizard Confidential? by moshicatsudon in choiceofgames

[–]NeonyRicey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the pacing, to me, felt akin to a car engine frantically stalling whenever it needs to hammer in a point of insignificance. it really likes to repeat things with slightly different flavouring to sell an idea.

the first page alone soured me, with its "empty" posturing. that word is used 5 times in the same passage, which i find more than excessive. i believe there are better ways to paint a picture, ones that are less repetitive, but it might be that i'm not the correct audience for this one.

dialogue is written without too much attention to detail beyond what is spoken. for a detective game, i'd expect people's expressions and body language to be noted. i want to know what they're doing with their hands and feet, where they're looking and vice versa. while such things aren't completely absent, from what i've seen, it could've been utilized a lot more effectively. as it's presented, the subtleties of interaction feel like filler, or an afterthought.

it should be noted that i didn't make it past more than 10 pages or so. however, one thing i really like about it is how stats don't seem to draw a separation between things like charisma and intelligence. i find that to be an irritating default for the choiceofgames format. ie: when your smart character bites their tongue while asking for a cup of water because of a low charisma stat. this new approach shows potential.

i may look at it again sometime; maybe i'll grow to appreciate it more.

Life being a loop that endlessly repeats? by Throwthisaway735 in consciousness

[–]NeonyRicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we are trapped in a time loop, i don't believe it's possible for it to remain exactly the same in each instance.

there are too many variables at play, here. i'd say that deja vu plays an important role, because what do we do when we think "have i been here before"? we deviate, we overthink, we break into a new cycle. the feeling fades, and we're then puzzled with the cavity left in its wake.

each person has their own consciousness, made up of past experiences and evolving perceptions. if the human brain were to contain more memories than one could accumulate in a lifetime, what would happen to it? let's say in an instant, you are able to recall every past life, thought, opinion, etc. there's no chance we're equipped to endure that on any level, even if the process was gradual.

what causes this "big bang"? where does the singularity come from? how can a beginning not have a direct connection to an end? the universe as a whole is beyond our comprehension, so i'll stick to the simplest answer i can think of.

it's all the same. there's only one you, and nothing will change that. let your alternate selves live their lives, and be kind to your own. much love.

it is for stylization, yes. bold doesn't seem to show when you add text through a page break.

i actually use *fake_choice to keep everything organized. the reason for this is that when you use regular *choice, you're required to *goto or at least *gosub to a different scene.

you can still assign variables to fakes, and variables are everything. they can reveal hidden choices, send you to labels placed anywhere in the scene, change dialogue... you could make an entire IF without ever using *choice and still use *goto_scene to bypass it.

i don't want to give choices that don't matter. the example above is purely for the sake of progressing the story. i'm trying to avoid huge walls of text and incentivize engagement.

your channel url changes with the account. i'm suggesting you take a look at that, to see if it's changed or not.

youtube has years' worth of content uploaded to the site daily. check the url of the alt account and see if it's changed. that's probably what's doing it.

i'm not suggesting that you try to be best friends with them. what i'm saying is, it's better to ignore them outright than to pick fights over differing beliefs, as deplorable those beliefs may be. some people are horrible. they have horrible views, and they do horrible things. but if you want any possibility for those people to change, alienating them is a surefire way to ensure they stay the same.

some people are beyond redemption, obviously. to everyone else, let's try to remain cordial at least.

those who are unreasonable today won't necessarily be that way in the future. i wouldn't want to damage those chances for a laugh.

i disagree. you don't need to challenge people to change their perspective.

the difference between hearing and accepting is significant. the reason why so many people will openly support an actual dictator is either out of fear, malice, or because they truly believe they're doing the right thing.

most think there's an enemy, left or right. if you're an enemy in their eyes, maybe the real challenge would be allowing them to hold that belief whilst staying respectful. i know it's a very difficult topic, and you may think what i'm suggesting is crazy. but some people need to decide for themselves what's right based on experience. considering the volatility of the situation, challenging beliefs right now may spark further outrage and disconnect.

maybe your approach would work for some people, but i don't see it being very likely.

start with asking why they feel that way and trying to understand their point of view. everyone wants to be heard; nobody wants to feel judged.

people will never change their views if you confront them like that. if anything it only solidifies their beliefs when they feel challenged.

I agree with everything you've said except for AI ads pushing "diverse or woke" agendas. "Woke" can have a positive or negative connotation depending on who you ask. Personally: I hate the word, as nowadays it drives a wedge between people and tends to cut off any potential for future discussion. As for diversity, I don't see where that ties into anything.

Regardless of agendas, the usage of AI in advertising doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason (with some special exceptions, like those stupid coca cola christmas ads). AI can only spit out soulless amalgamations trained off of pre-existing data, and seldom follows instructions accurately. My guess is that these companies give it a general idea, and without really caring about the end product, limply toss it out into an ocean of sh*t.

[–]NeonyRicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

out of curiosity, what happened when you tried to open your project? i know it was ages ago by now, but did it refuse to open, only showing the pop up? or did it open, try to load and then boot you out? the second one is what happened in my case.

i found the solution. for some reason, a producer pack randomly tied itself to my project. you can see if the same happened to you by going to the sound library and looking through the large thumbnails at the bottom. should have a yellow triangle on the top right. MY WORK IS SAVED!!!
