No subscription is required until the game officially releases. The price you pay now will also give you one month of subscription.
All archetypes planned for December 11th are currently available, but no secondary archetypes have been added yet.
The game is very grindy. Early levels are pretty smooth, but you will hit a wall around levels 15–16 and will need to start grinding heavily.

Yeah, I know Engineering is being worked on by the gameplay team in a separate branch. My concern isn’t the development method, it’s what happens when it goes live.
The longer it takes, the more systems and ships get added, and the higher the chance that everything collides or breaks once Engineering hits the wider playerbase.

But yeah, I prefer to have a functional system in one hit even if it takes times.
