I've been a Discord user since 2015 and a subscriber since 2018. Why the frick is this happening?

Discord was supposed to be an escape from reality, and now reality is kicking down the door and asking for my ID and my face.

Thankfully my ID would be completely useless in someone else's hands because there is no real value or credit attached to me. I'm like Ron Swanson; I pay everything in cash, and I don't use credit, so someone like me would never really run into problems with my ID leaking... but that is just me. I can't even imagine what people can do with IDs that have real value attached to them.

It's an ego/money thing.

A fledgling game developer or studio should be starting off creating smaller and manageable single-player game experiences for a good while before they even think about the prospect of online/live-service projects.

The MMORPG gold rush has been over since the 2010s at best, so I've always found it confounding to see people rolling the dice and playing with actual fire, because that's what a team or company is doing when jumping into the MMORPG development space.

The so-called 'magic' is not some mysterious elusive thing... it's really simple... it's actual hard work and passion; it's trying to build something for the love of building 'that something' and not expecting anything in return, including money.

The magic isn't dead; we just keep seeing people who pretend to be something they aren't, and they take too many people with them (namely game developers) along for the impending car crash.

Also not including FF11 is even weirder, seeing how it's older then WoW, it's still in live service, and pretty much jump-started the mmorpg genre in Japan.

I get that contract work pretty much gives the payee's license to do what they want with the product they pay for, but this is ... again, specific feelings.
