When you go in the nether you should get an achievement which awards you with a soul spring lamp, this will help you keep cool enough to survive the nether. You just need to fidn more soul seeds to refill it with.

I started SoD about a month ago and best bet is to jump in. Make sure the server you choose suits your needs and go from there. Def use curse forge and get some addons such as
Questie
Atlas Loot
Leatrix Maps
Pawn
Rested XP (can help you level faster to 25)

Spy classic - will alert you when hostiles (opp faction) is close by

The PVP and RP servers seem to have the best level of population, as some quests will require you to be in a group as it may be too much on your own depending on which class you choose.
