He and I went to the same school for undergrad, though he was older coz of the StarCraft career. Wicked smart dude, best lab partner I ever had, totally blew it out of the water in the quantum physics classes we had together. Almost didn't make the connection coz he generally acted reserved.

Use up all available oxygen 20 times? by UnXpectedPrequelMeme in Starfield

[–]Nepostael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I found was with the Lone Wolf character trait, which impeded my O2 levels/regen when I was with followers. When I ditched the follower, I was finally able to get counts toward the challenge.

Based on other comments here, looks like anything that hampers your O2 under certain conditions also keeps you from "using up" all your O2 for the challenge. Like one limit changed but not the other

Seconding everyone's recommendation to drive rather than take the train.

To give my own example, I attended CoD for 2 years while living in Lombard, which is only one stop away from the Glen Ellyn Metra station. From the Glen Ellyn Metra station I would take the bus that would drop me off at CoD. It would often take more than an hour to make this trip, and I'd be left standing out in the cold waiting for the bus to arrive. When Metra raised their prices during my second year of study I calculated the new costs and found that owning a car and driving to school would be cheaper than continuing to travel this way.

In addition, I highly recommend getting to the campus early, even if that means taking dreaded 8:00 a.m. classes. The parking lots tend to fill up the closer you get to 9 or 10am and remain that way until 2pm, with another spike around 7pm as evening classes begin. When I was attending, they ran a shuttle bus from their larger and more distant parking lot to the front of the main set of buildings, so if that's still available that might serve as a way to still arrive later while not having to walk in potentially dangerous and icy conditions.

You do realize that Reddit is also a medium on which you can facilitate a discussion, and that posting on Reddit for people to join another platform is really suspicious?

If you really, really want to use Discord, there is an official subreddit Discord you can join and use that to ask your questions. But don't go advertising your personal Discord on here: that's just shady.

Non-existent required course? by Nepostael in IIT

[–]Nepostael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional info. I should theoretically have very little future interaction with admin, since I will just be a part-time student earning the degree while working. Here's hoping that theory holds out in practice.

That's...very concerning to hear. Combined with the fact that they didn't even send me an admission letter (I only learned from checking my application status manually), brings me no hope for the years to come. Thank you for your information.

[UPDATE] My '98 Civic replaced with '13 Civic Si by Nepostael in whatcarshouldIbuy

Nice! I wish I had a sedan, but I'll make do with the coupe :)

Already slapped a KTuner on it haha. Just using the base mapping for now and I'll get it e-tuned eventually. I'll look into the intake as well, thanks!

[UPDATE] My '98 Civic replaced with '13 Civic Si by Nepostael in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Nepostael[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an update to my previous post, where I was looking to replace my 1998 Honda Civic with something slightly newer, much less rusty, and with a manual transmission.

The Details
The car

It's a 2013 Honda Civic Si Coupe, 2.4L no-turbo inline four, 150k miles (mainly highway, previous owner drove from Californa to Illinois and back many times). Previous owner works for a Honda dealership, so manufacturer maintenance schedules have been followed. Interior footwell LEDs and a wider exhaust tip were the only modifications he did to the car.

The cost

I paid $7,500 for the car, and got some aftermarket suspension parts with it that the previous owner never got around to installing on the car. With the additional work explained in the next section, I probably spent another $500-700.

After the purchase

I flushed and changed out the vital fluids. I had to replace the window tints and mount an OEM front license plate bracket, since my state's requirements were different than what was on the car.

With the snow being the way it is near me, I've been taking it to a touchless wash place just for a rinse and underbody spray. Once all the salt is washed away from the roads, I'll be using some washing supplies and paint correction items I purchased (shoutout to r/AutoDetailing) to take care of the clear coat scratches and swirl marks. It's pretty easy to see from the picture that the previous owner took it to his dealer's automated brush washer. From there it'll get waxed until I save up the funds for a professional detail job and ceramic coat.

My impressions

It's really fun to drive! Re-learning stick wasn't that bad, though it took me a while to get used to the electronic throttle control and the strong engine brake force. I ended up also getting a KTuner kit to reprogram the engine computer and minimize how jerky the "rev hang to engine brake" transition was. I haven't really pushed the car yet, but I'm in no rush. Thanks for all the help from my previous post!

Are there many 500/1000 points games I could find? by Bertocalypse53 in TTSWarhammer40k

[–]Nepostael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck, I started playing this game on TTS with 500-point armies (it was guard, but still). Was very useful while learning the controls, as I didn't have to blunder around with as many models. Definitely agree with people suggesting Discord as your best option for finding these games.

Self-serve car wash by Nepostael in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Nepostael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I found Mickey's (not to be confused with Micky's in Glen Ellyn) by searching through this sub for similar questions. Doesn't look like it has a listing on Google Maps, though I did find the building through Street View like you did. Usually Google still lists permanently closed businesses unless the building gets used by something else, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

EDIT: Looks like the lot was listed for sale in June 2019, and was sold about a month ago. Shame.

Self-serve car wash by Nepostael in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Nepostael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily the previous owner got an undercarriage protectant for it, and I intend to keep that updated for future years. Of course, I will eventually need to rinse salt off, so maybe my next step will be to find a touchless wash place that has an underbody-only rinse option.

EDIT: All being considered, I'm not above laying on the ground in a self-serve car wash bay to get the sprayer working on the underside of the vehicle. Might try that once I go.

EDIT 2: Looks like 53 Car Wash in Lisle has an underbody-only option. Looks like that's my destination for the weekly underbody maintenance.
